So my bluetooth works and is connected on my Hackintosh. It allows my apple wireless keyboard to work, my iMouse to work, and my bluetooth to hear out of it [youtube, music, etc.] - but every time I try to connect it as a microphone for Skype, Facetime, Zoom, etc - the bluetooth doesn't work. I can't figure out why!!!

It is frustrating cause I want it to work for my business, but right now I have to use my Macbook Air if I want to do any video calls. I have tried 3 different bluetooth headsets and all of them have the same issue, so I know its something to do with my Hackintosh. It worked with El Capitan but it doesn't work with Sierra. But I like Sierra better and everything else works with my Sierra [iMessage, Facetime, etc] I just can't get a bluetooth headset to work with it. Any thoughts would be super appreciated!!

Good to know i'm not the only one with this problem.

I'm using a BlueFIT JAZZ 6 (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B011NTAYTS/?tag=tonymacx86c0c-20)
With the IO Gear usb adapter (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B007GFX0PY/?tag=tonymacx86c0c-20)

Did you find a solution? what devices have you tried?

another user with same problem: https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/bluetooth-4-0-dongle-audio-input-via-headset.208790/

Crendore I've tried a Plantronics Voyager, Plantronics Voyager Edge, and Bose Headset, and VTIN Swan headsets. All of them will hear out of it when playing youtube or something...but when I want to do Skype or FaceTime they stop working. Its so frustrating. I'm using a Bluetooth USB adapter that's plugged into a USB 3.0 port. The adapter is what is recommended in the forums here. So I guess I'll just have to suck it up for now and see if the next operating system will help it work. I just don't know if I have to fix the Kext or if it is an Apple issue.

Same problem, with a Gmyle BT adapter / Sierra. I'd buy another one, if there is reported success with it, sooo .. if you have it working, please tell us!

--- EDIT. move post here:

my suspicion is the same as what was mentioned in https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/gbu521-with-the-p311-as-a-headset-in-skype-on-10-8-3.96561/, the headset does not switch into "low quality" hsf mode, but stays in HDAudio mode (as can be seen in ioregexp, if i don't misinterpret). As it works with my headset (Sony MDR-1BRT) on the genuine macbook i think that the dongle (gmyle) does not state to have or actually does not have the capability to dynamically switch modes.

in audio midi setup the mic and headphone are separate devices, and the headphone offers the hd and the mono modes, but does not actually switch. looks strange to me..

Now I have no idea how to find out and set the appropriate flags (which i suppose may be there). As I have better headphones (and monitors) connected to the HackMac, I'd be happy enough to change this statically (although on laptop, ipad and android phone the switching works transparently). I'd also be happy to look into hacking some description tables, but I have no idea where to start.

Dongles are not that expensive either, so i'd buy another one if somebody finds one that switches nicely (also meaning, having it working with a pure headset or mic won't really help. Although buying a cheap BT-headset could be an option as well). This could be connected to aptX ???

FWIW, same issues here with Sierra. Have tried GBU521 and also ASUS USB-BT400. Can get sound working OK but no microphone. Have tried various headsets, el cheapo MPOW MBH15, and Jabra Classic. These all work fine from a regular macbook.

My workaround now is to get a USB wireless headset since that should look similar to a wired USB headset which works just fine, sound, microphone, etc. Ancient crappy plantronics blackwire c520-M wired USB headset works just great. Am hoping that the Plantronics GAMECOM 818 Wireless Stereo will do the trick. Stay tuned.

Hey guys, I faced the same problem too and managed to fix it with help from another thread.

https://github.com/RehabMan/OS-X-BrcmPatchRAM

Follow the steps in the link above. I managed to fix the problem by installing 2 kexts (BrcmFirmwareRepo.kext and BrcmPatchRAM2.kext) to S/L/E using KextBeast.

"Similar to the Android File Transfer problem, Google Chrome (evidently a problem specific to Google's engineers) will also hook all USB ports. Sometimes this causes a problem. Personally, I don't see why a web browser should be hooking USB ports at the kernel level, so I always disable this "feature". Visit chrome://flags/#enable-webusb, and you can disable it."

^ IMPORTANT! Remember to disable the WebUSB setting on Chrome first.

Audio quality still sucks when using the microphone though (on skype, Siri etc.) due to a limitation in the codec used on MacOS. You can read more about it here: https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/282705/airpods-extremely-poor-mic-quality-on-mac

Good luck!

Can you share with us which adapter you are using? And also what headset? i have tried following these instructions with my setup and had no luck.

My setup:
I'm using a BlueFIT JAZZ 6 (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B011NTAYTS/?tag=tonymacx86c0c-20)
With the IO Gear usb adapter (https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B007GFX0PY/?tag=tonymacx86c0c-20)

I also tried the patches above with no luck.

Anyone else have any progress with this?

OSX 10.12.6
Headset: Blackberry 655 (Manufacturer: Cambridge Silicon Radio (0x3, 0xA5B)
Dongle: something Broadcom

Solved ASUS USB-BT400. Only install two kext brcmfirmwarerepo.kext and brcmpatchram2.kext on sierra. Enjoy it!!
