I decided to start a new topic, as the last one was too cluttered with just ideas, and now I'm actually making the thing, I thought it'd be nice to have a clear log.

Anyway here we go.

Original Case:

I wanted to be able to use a full ATX board inside this case, with as little appearance changes to the outside as possible.

Customisation:
I first started by removing the whole of the back of the case, and stripping all of the parts out of the case.

After this was done, I went about creating a customised back plate using a mountain mods motherboard tray and some sheet metal which I found on ebay.

Back painted - needs a bit of touch up work.

This is how far i've got currently but have lots more plans for this case.

I'm planning to paint the rear side of the case so the colour matches, I will also be using a corsair H80 to cool the cpu at the rear of the case.

I am still playing around with fan layout to see how many I can fit in (thinking possibly 4 120's + H80)

I am also going to be using a HDD rack to allow me to have 6 HDD inside the case (2x SSD's in raid 0 for boot, and 4 HDD's for storage)

If anyone has got any thoughts please don't hesitate to say. It is still looking a bit of a mess at the moment, but will look a lot better when finalised.

Update 29th April 2012

Re: Mac Pro Case

Nice, I tried this once with a G5, and I quit after painting it. Lesson learned: I'm no spray-paint artist....bummer.

How are you glueing the back? I hope you are using a conductive material, suck as conductive epoxy.

I have pictures of my case, I'm willing to get rid of them.

Re: Mac Pro Case

I've been using J B weld to do as much as possible, and have another one (forgotten the name of currently) which is very similar.

I've just started spray painting some parts, whilst others dry - just with primer though, am hoping it will turn out ok, but sort of at the wait and see stage at the moment.

I'm not too bad with a spray can so fingers crossed :p

Re: Mac Pro Case

Looks really good! Will be really hard to notice once youve finished filling/glueing/jb weld-ing(is that a word???) and painted it.

Re: Mac Pro Case

Cheers Gus, I'm fairly pleased with it so far

However am really starting to notice how time consuming these mods are (this is my first) :p

Re: Mac Pro Case

Yup. But the time is worth it for the finished product! I am extremely envious of some people's mods on here. So much fabulous work.

Re: Mac Pro Case

where you bought the TRAY?
You have the link? please

Re: Mac Pro Case

I bought a mountain mods motherboard tray, which I've adapted to give the mac pro style look.

Cheers eelhead, When are you going to get round to building yours :p
