thank you for the dev Lnx2Mac! working great on my p55-ud4p with speed recognition.

how many betas do you think there will be and any ideas on the final release? thinking whether i should use this instead of R1000 on my stable hack.
rich,
It all depends on the feedback I get...
In my experience, this is faster and more stable than R1000SL...

But Realtek just released a new one 2.0.5, so that one might be better...

Haven't tested yet, and haven't seen any reports yet...

Thanks, good project. and more good news.
Thanks !

Realtek relase new AppleRTL8169Ethernet.kext driver to support 32/64bit.

RTGMac_v2.0.5 (MacOS 10.6 on Intel-based Mac computer 2.0.5 2010/9/21)

support chips.
 RTL8111B/RTL8168B/RTL8111/RTL8168
 RTL8111C/RTL8111CP/RTL8111D(L)
 RTL8168C/RTL8111DP/RTL8111E

i tested RTL8111D (RTL8168D). 32/64bit works!!

bash-3.2# file AppleRTL8169Ethernet
AppleRTL8169Ethernet: Mach-O universal binary with 3 architectures
AppleRTL8169Ethernet (for architecture x86_64): Mach-O 64-bit kext bundle x86_64
AppleRTL8169Ethernet (for architecture i386): Mach-O object i386
AppleRTL8169Ethernet (for architecture ppc): Mach-O object ppc

bash-3.2# strings AppleRTL8169Ethernet | grep RTL
RTL8168DP
RTL8169
RTL8169S/RTL8110S
RTL8169SB/RTL8110SB
RTL8169SC/RTL8110SC
RTL8101E
RTL8102E(L)
RTL8103E(L)
RTL8105E
RTL8401
RTL8168
RTL8168B
RTL8168C
RTL8168CP
RTL8168D
RTL8105
RTL8168E
AppleRTL8169Ethernet
RTLNICClient
com.apple.driver.AppleRTL8169Ethernet

Gotta install and torture test it as I tested mine... ;)

Re: Lnx2Mac's Realtek Ethernet Driver - Public Beta Available!

just tried out Realtek's kext and a few (overly attentive :D) observations i saw where:

- shows Wake on LAN in Energy Saver
- Bonjour is working
- shows my second NIC as amber instead of red when unused (not sure if this matters)
- ethernet speed is "autoselect" with a gigabit LAN instead showing "1000baseT" with Lnx2Mac's (both with 1 Gbit/s link speed)
- speeds from my hack to my MBP peak at 74 MB/s with 72 MB/s for Lnx2Mac's. didnt check average speed, but noticeably faster with a 1GB file.

however only Lnx2Mac's works for me after waking from sleep. hopefully this info is useful. maybe reverse engineer Realtek's and incorporate these features?

right now i will be sticking to Lnx2Mac's because of the sleep issue, but Realtek's kext overall is faster and more features.

Great release, solved so many issues!

Only concern I have, not exactly sure if it is due to this kext, is that when I manually put the machine to sleep (Via the menu bar) the machine actually shuts down and reboots on usb wake.

Any thoughts?
trevolutionary,

Thanks for your feedback.

Actually, sleep has been quite thoroughly tested during the private beta, so I doubt this kext is the cause...

But we can never be sure until we test it ;)
I'd remove the kext, rebuild cache, and reboot to verify that the sleep/wake problem still occurs.
You can then reinstall the kext.

Please report back here (even if it's not related),

Thanks !
Lnx2Mac
Removed kext, rebuilt, reboo, clicked all boxes in sys pref and sleep worked.

Reinstalled kext, rebuilt, and now having usb problems on wake from sleep. I will dig a little more and see if there is a conflict elsewhere.

Keep up the amazing work!

I seen that problem when moving from the official Realtek driver to any other ethernet driver. One the first boot, it is extremely slow and USB stops working. After you power off the box and reboot, everything is back to normal.

I got sleep to work. I'm using the DSDT from this site. seems like EvOreboot.kext did the trick. Also remove IOAHCIBlockStorageInjector.kext and obviously NullCPUPowerManagement.kext if you are using it. Speedstep and turbo are also working.

Re: Lnx2Mac's Realtek Ethernet Driver - Public Beta Available!

On second test the USB problem occurred without this kext installed. Thanks for the tips and tricks, off to rule out some other things as well.

Re: Lnx2Mac's Realtek Ethernet Driver - Public Beta Available!

Thank you very much Lnx2Mac for your hard work. I installed this kext last night, everything appears to be working flawlessly. Much appreciated.
