Debating whether to go with mSATA 256GB SSD for boot drive and keep the 750GB mechanical. Just curious whether you know if the mSATA is type 2 or 3? In your honest opinion is the read/write performance difference noticable between mSATA and the SATA drive? Just trying to have fast boot and still have plenty of storage.

It is likely SATA III, but you should check the specs yourself (eg. read the service manual).

Combed and searched but couldn't find if the eSata was type 3, ended up ordering 2.5in sata 250Gb. Decided the extra speed is worth it, I can just use the old 750gb sata as an external drive anyway.

I thought you were wondering about mSATA, not eSATA...

Thanks for your help. In conclusion, I am going to transition to it. It would seem that I get essentially the same result with xcpm as I did with IvyPM. The main advantage I see here is that there are less kexts to load at boot, so startup is noticably faster. There are probably even some more kexts/plugins that do not have to load that are still loading. Of course this is only an option if you have patched your bios to unlock the MSRs.

Just wanted to follow up on this. How is this working out for you?

The only noticeable change is quicker boot times. Less loading at boot, no issues with xcpm, still have the blinking led issue. I haven't really tried to fix it (it is kind of benign anyway.)

I made the U310 a Fusion Drive and I still have it at 10.8.2 (cause it is my Fiance's)
Anyway, If I want to put Mavericks on this thing, I was thinking of

1. Backing up all of her stuff. (duh)
2. Installing method on first post on a USB drive.
3. Wiping the Fusion Drive.
4. Clone USB hard drive to Fusion Drive.
5. Boot USB hard drive again.
6. Reinstall Chimera to each Fusion Drive.

Will my theory work?

Does anybody know how to create a menu bar icon (menulet) that can launch an app? So for example, have a W icon up there that when clicked opens Office Word?

any of you experiencing faster battery drain during sleep after the upgrade?

I'm getting these messages at boot, are they normal?

This post mentions adding a value to platform plist but I don't know where that is

I'm starting to see lots of these in the console log... how did you fix it?
