How do I get to choose the best codec patch?

It is trial/error.
0x11d41984 or 0x11d4198b are commonly used with laptop audio.

Where can I find the 'real' patch-hda.pl? (I'm not sure this is the one, and the link in the script is dead)

Google might help you. I have my own version with my own unpublished changes.

So I tried with what this, and it works! However I'm not sure the sound quality (speakers) is as good as before, but I do believe that this is because of the codec patch (correct me if I'm wrong)! Thanks for the help

You might look into the CodecCommander custom configs.
It could be that ALC293 is similar to ALC292.
Note special setup for ALC292 in CodecCommander Info.plist...

I couldn't find a version of patch-hda.pl with the map included for 0x10ec0293, would you mind sharing yours here?

How come all this is not needed when AppleALC is used? AppleALC must do the same kind of things, isn't it possible to get the right codec patch using the knowledge of AppleALC?

Add it to the map.

I believe I have an OK sound, but I didn't get the same value as yours using my patch-hda.pl after adding 0x10ec0293.

The set of patches required depends on the patch codec, target codec, and system version.

Hey there,
can anybody help me getting HS installed on my T560?
Ich copied the EFI Folder to my Clover USB but after boot screen resolution is at approx. 640x480 and there is no option Menu in Clover to activate verbose mode. Installer doesn't seem to start. Some help would be great, guys!
Oh, and are there special bios settings required?
