[SOLVED]Intel USB3 issue of GA-Z77X-UP4 TH

Hi All:

The USB3 issue of GA-Z77X-UP4 TH has been fixed all.

1. Upgrade BIOS version to F9.
2. Install "USB 3.0 - Universal" by "MultiBeast - Mountain Lion 5.3.0" ( Driver & Bootloaders -> Drivers -> Miscellaneous -> USB 3.0 - Universal)

Then we got:

1. Use Intel USB or VIA VL800 USB port to boot
2. It works for USB 2/3 devices with any port in OSX 10.8.3. (Either Intel USB 2.0/3.0 or VIA VL800 USB3 port on this motherboard)

If we install "USB 3.0 - Universal" on Unibeast USB, we can use this UniBeast USB to install OSX with boot from VIA VL800 USB3 port.

That's great news! I will try to install this weekend! This problem has really deterred me from working on my Hackintosh but now I will try again w your recommendation . Thanks!

excellent news
I have tested it and it works like a charm!

many thanks

So what settings are you using in the bios ? Specifically the USB related ones: xhc etc?

fade2nada,

here are the Bios settings:

XHCI pre-boot driver -> enab
XHCI Mode -> auto
HS Port # 1 thru #4 switchable -> enab
xHCI steams -> enab
USB2.0 controller -> enab

leg USB support -> enab
XHCI hand-off -> enab
EHCI hand-off -> dis

For what it's worth, on the bios features tab I've got both the Intel Virt Tech & VT-d disable. By not doing so my ML 10.8.3 did not boot

hope this helps :)

Fanon yes that helps tremendously. One last question; can I just upgrade my bios and install the universal USB 3 option from the new multibeast? Or do I have to perform a "full clean install" of the system?
Thanks!

fade2nada,

I already was on Bios 9 prior so I do not know if this is necessary ( bit it won't hurt I guess)

As for the USB3 option - that's all you need to do - absolutely no need to do a full clean system re-install, at least not in my case - but don't forget it's a H'tosh! :)
So if all goes well you'll be up and running in just under 2 minutes

let me know if you're okay

cheers.

My BIOS setting for GA-Z77X-UP4 TH with bios version F9. Almost default setting but EHCI Hand-off turn to Enabled, and I think it doesn't affect the fixed result.

You can rollback AppleACPIPlatform.kext to 10.8.1 (via MultiBeast 5.3.0 or above), then you can turn on Intel Virt Tech & VT-d.

Hey benjenq,

hopefully not too of-topic for this threat:
I have the GA-Z77-DS3H and your profile tells me that you also own the same board.
Have you tried your solution on the DS3H as well? If so does it work?

I suppose these settings would be correct for most Gigabyte UEFI boards, including my DS3H.

I've been having a hard time finding a source for how to get USB 2 devices working with my USB3.0-Ports without losing USB 3.0 functionality...
If these steps aren't good for my board, any hints on how to get it work?
