Hello,

I am about to install Sierra on a HP Pavilion 15 (see signature below for full specs) which runs an i7 8550U. The integrated graphic card I will be using is an Intel UHD620. I understand that the 8th Generation of Intel iX series is an upgrade to the previous one, therefore I am assuming that most of the solutions used for 7th Gen CPUs also apply to the 8th Gen CPUs. One of my concerns is about the integrated graphics. I couldn't find any detailed thread about this one and the Clover guide for laptops only deals with HD620 graphics, which are available on 7th Gen CPUs. The only resource I've found is this one, which is confused and far from detailed.

In addition to the above, the notebook features an Intel 3168NGW M.2 WiFi card. Any recommendations for a replacement? Again, I could find only a few resources and everything seems to be pretty new, so there is very little informations about these topics out there.

Any heads up before starting to work on this build?

Follow the Clover guide linked from the FAQ.
http://www.tonymacx86.com/el-capita...faq-read-first-laptop-frequent-questions.html

Although you should read the FAQ for an overview of issues, the Clover guide is linked from the first question: "Q. Where do I start?", just after the bold face "Clover Guide".
Here is a direct link, just to be clear:
https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guide-booting-the-os-x-installer-on-laptops-with-clover.148093/

Also, your profile must be filled out with complete details as requested in the FAQ, again under "Q. Where do I start?". All seven details requested are equally important.

And if you have an issue (after following the guide), or on any other problem, you must provide a detailed description of the problem including information that helps us understand what you're doing. Always attach "Problem Reporting" files as per FAQ.

The required files and data are fully detailed in the last question in the FAQ:
"Q. What are typical "Problem Reporting" files?"

Intel WiFi not supported. Read the FAQ.

That's the guide I am following. I am prepping everything that's necessary to get the USB installer working and acquiring info about the issues that will need to be addressed afterwards.

Intel WiFi not supported. Read the FAQ.

I am aware of that, in fact I was asking for a replacement. I ended up buying a VBESTLIFE BCM94352Z, since I understand that BCM94352Z is the go-to for Hacks with M.2 WiFi cards. Can anyone confirm this card is OK to be used on Sierra?

Profile updated with the specs of the laptop.

What about the UHD620? Should I start from the "_spoof" config file available in the guide? That refers to the HD620, but I've seen a report from a user that stated it was working fine. Any additional feedback?

See FAQ for WiFi info.
No need for spoofing KabyLake graphics as Skylake with 10.12.6 and later.

That's where I took the info from, so I assume that's a "yes". :)

I am using Coffee Lake (8th gen), not KabyLake. I guess there's no need for spoofing regardless, correct?

After some initial testing on the new build, I can confirm that UHD 620 works flawlessly with the HD 620 config.plist file (no spoofing). Keyboard backlight and Speedstep/Turbo boost seem also to be working without any DSDT/kext/SSDT patch (which is kind of amazing, isn't it?), as confirmed both by Intel Power Gadget and AppleIntelInfo.kext. Still unable to provide info about the WiFi module, as I still don't have it.

As expected.

Keyboard backlight

Most laptops handle it internally in the EC or with ACPI help, so it is expected it usually works.
Most OEMs (except ASUS) have moved away from requiring OEM specific drivers.

As expected with the guide plists.

As for the Ethernet kext, I'm still unable to find one that works. Should I apply some DSDT fix from Clover Configurator or do you have any other recommendation about this?
