Intel HD5500 7MB no kext loaded

Hi Guys,

Sorry I haven't replied earlier, but I was struggling to get this working until now.

I eventually got the graphics kexts loaded (combination of permission issues, ig-platform-id here). I think also, that simply generating the dsdt with clover f4 fixed something. I could be mistaken here, but I'm pretty sure that providing the original dsdt somehow fixed it for me. My next issue was the black screen and mouse cursor. I could tell the graphics were accelerated (confirmed in boot logs). To fix this, I adjusted my dvram till it worked. Even though I already upped the dvram and the assertion passed, it was still causing issues with the framebuffer till I changed to 96mb (I think). @RehabMan is completely right. DO NOT JUST PATCH OVER THE ASSERTION. It's there for a very good reason.

After that, I had full acceleration but... the dreaded freezing started. That's what's been keeping me busy for the last 2 days. I saw reports of some users claiming the El Capitan beta fixes the freezing, so tonight I tried it out. IT WORKS PERFECTLY :)

I'm now running El Capitan with full quartz and very happy. Thanks so much @RehabMan, seriously. You've put so much out there (FakeSMC, the configs... pretty much everything I used has your stamp on it). You rock!

Just thought I'd post this in case someone else was having issues with freezing.

To Recap:

- Follow RehabMan's guides
- Follow the intelhd5500 guide post, make sure to set your dvram correctly
- Maybe generate dsdt with clover f4 (Not sure if this makes a difference, it did for me I think)
- If you get mouse cursor with black screen, adjust dvram till it works. Also play with ig-platform-id. 0x161600002 works best for me.
- Once you're in, you'll most likely start getting freezes. If this happens, don't panic. Simply boot without injecting intel (slow but it works), download the el capitan beta and install it. When you reboot, select the new entry for installing OS X on the drive you installed yosemite on.
- Once El Capitan is installed, boot with intel injection again and Profit :)

Glad you got it working.

For my Aspire E5-771-74E7 HD5500, I was able to fix my freezing issues in Yosemite 10.10.5 by rolling back to FakeSMC 5.3.820:
http://www.tonymacx86.com/yosemite-...hd-graphics-5500-os-x-yosemite-10-10-3-a.html

Haven't had a freeze since so I'm crossing my fingers :D. Before I would get a freeze every 10-20 minutes.

Glad it's working for you, but rolling back to FakeSMC 5.3.820 did nothing for me :/. El Capitan beta works flawlessly though, and seeing as I would have wanted to update anyway, I'm happy enough :)

hi
i had been following the threads and trying out installing yosemite 10.10.3 and tried out..
i face problem in inspiron 7746 with i5 and hd5500. similar issue of 7mb no kext loaded.

i managed to install yosemite

i have used the dvmt method with booting to the EFI shell'
but i find that there is three dvmt info of which i get confused what to write to with EFI shell.

a)0x1FDEA Setting: DVMT Pre-Allocated, Variable: 0x228 {05 91 9D 03 9E 03 B6 27 01 00 28 02 14 10 01 3F 00}
b)
0x1FECE Setting: DVMT Pre-Allocated, Variable: 0x229 {05 91 9D 03 9E 03 4A 02 01 00 29 02 10 10 01 10 00}
c)
0x1FF53 Setting: DVMT Total Gfx Mem, Variable: 0x22A {05 91 B1 03 B2 03 4B 02 01 00 2A 02 10 10 01 03 00}

should i change all with setup_var 0x228/0x229/0x22A to 0x03??

There have been cases of two offsets for DVMT-prealloc. In those cases, users have set both.

hi sir,
so i will set both to 0x03 and leaving the gfx unchanged?
thx, i will try now

0x16160006 is not a valid ig-platform-id. Using an invalid id only serves to disable the graphics drivers.

I've a pretty similar issue.

specs
ASUS K555LB
Intel i7 4500U
8GB RAM

My current specs in Yosemite 10.10
NVIDIA GeForce 940m disable.
Intel HD Graphics 5500 "enable" but, with 4MB of VRAM.

Screenshots:

I tryed and tryed but, this are very very laggy.

My IORegistryExplorerLog is attached.
Can you help me please?
Sorry for my bad english, and thanks so much.
