Hello, I don't know if someone might be able to help me, but here it goes... I have 4540s i3 running 10.8.5 that has been running very nicely with very little issues for almost a year now. I installed with this guide -> https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guide-to-installing-mountain-lion-on-hp-probook.77057/ and I haven't had any issues till now. I use the computer to make music using various different programs and hardware. I have always recorded with just the onboard line in/mic input on the front of the laptop at 48000Hz/16bit. Has been solid with no issues until recently. The audio sounds fine for a while then gets corrupted with what sounds kind of like static build up(tested various wires/sources digital and analog with the same result). I recorded it and will link a post for what it sounds like as I'm not sure I could post a .wav file here. One thing I noticed is that the audio setup is always a random way when the computer starts and I have to change it every time I start the laptop. Its weird because the built in mic and line in input and the built in output are different. The line input is always at 44100Hz/24bit and the output is 44100Hz/16bit, and the mic in is at 48000Hz/16bit. I'm pretty sure somethings not right because of this, especially with the change in bit depth on the in and out. Please, if there is a way to maybe fix this that somebody knows please let me know. Even a reset to get the Hz/bits the same(as it seems that simply changing these before opening apps doesn't work) would probably help, but I don't know what to do. I really really really don't want do a fresh install because I seriously don't want to go through all the installs for everything again. It all works great except for this one issue crippling me. Thanks for your time.
