The guide you're reading is specifically for the ProBook (your laptop is not a ProBook).

Hm, on ACPI 4 I'm getting this when I wasn't before, I even repulled the dsdt because I thought it was weird:

Followed the directions on there under how to install, booted up, now getting "Still waiting for root devices", haven't changed anything in the bios or otherwise and I'm using the only USB 2.0 port on this laptop. Pulling the pendrive out and putting it back in isn't working either.

Are you still trying to reach the installer? If so, boot verbose and post quality photo of entire screen. If not, what does the pendrive have to do with booting from your HDD post-install?

You created your USB with "Legacy USB" -- incorrect for modern hardware.

Remove IOUSBFamily.kext from /Extra/Extensions on the USB.

What is in your /Extra/Extensions on the USB?
