I'm about to purchase the parts for my build and was wondering if any of the parts are particularly noisy that could easily be swapped for quieter ones.

PSU - Corsair 430 CMPSU-430CXV2UK
HDD - Seagate barracude 1TB ST31000524AS
SDD - SanDisk SDSSDX-120G-G25 120GB Extreme
RAM - Corsair CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9B 16GB (4x4GB) 1600MHz
Case - Corsair Carbide Series 400R
Mobo - Gigabyte SKT-1155 Z77-DS3H
CPU - i5-3570K (stock fan)
DVD - Sony AD-7280S-0B 24x Internal SATA DVD

Current total on Amazon UK : £592.13 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/registry/wishlist/13AFX3EAS0Y2Y&tag=tonymacx86-21)

I don't play games so I'm going to make do with the onboard HD4000 for now and maybe get a gfx card at a later date. I'll also just install linux initially, I just want to option to play with OSX later should I want to!

I'm guessing the case and cpu fans are the only things that will be making any real noise. I don't mind spending a bit more if I can noticeably get the volume down. I simply want it to be quiet enough to not annoy me if I watch a film at a low volume.

Cheers,
Matt

Case fans, CPU fan, and power supply will all have the potential to make noise. Don't underestimate how noisy a PSU can be.

Is there any way I can find out which of my current choice of components will be the noisiest, and therefore first to be considered for replacing with a quieter alternative?

Meh, I just went ahead and bought it all. Once built, I'll let you know my thoughts on the noise this rig kicks out ;)

I have found http://www.silentpcreview.com/ to be an excellent source for reviews of power supplies, fans and other noise sources. The site home page has links on the right to a lot of info and many reviews.

Historically, they're definitely the best. However, I've found that they don't stay as up-to-date as they used to. :(
