I had a lot of problems with artifacts in Firefox that disappeared when I turned off "use hardware acceleration when available". Now I get some things here and there, hardly noticeable. 10.7.2, unibeast, F11 bios.

Sometimes the machine produces no artefacts at all. Then after a reboot it does. It's like roulette—did I get a good boot today or one with lines?
Ditto. Exactly like how you describe for me.

Keeping my ears (eyes) open for any fixes or workarounds...

Hey guys, just an update from my side... I have been running without a single artifact for a few days now with reboots and putting the machine to sleep.

Just set the memory for the HD 3000 to 32mb. Can anyone else confirm that this works?

I'm surprised that works at all.

What's your display setup?

I set mine to 256 and it *really* helped with the artifacting. It's not completely gone, but it's good enough that I use my Hack as my primary work computer now.

I have my main screen connected via DVI and my TV connected via HDMI...

interesting.

it all goes against the advice the osx86 gurus have given

Huh, weird. Yeah, I dunno. With the default motherboard settings (64, I think it was), it was pretty bad. Bad enough that I was going to pick up a dedicated graphics card (PowerColor 6870)... but after changing it to 265, it's good enough that I can save the $160.

So what are the gurus saying? Ultimately I'd like the HD 3000 to be perfect...
