HD 3000 - apparent hang in main graphics engine

I don't think the freezing is unique to Hackintosh. Apple hardware is afffected, too. I have the same symptoms running LION on my iMac. And I'm not alone.

Here's a thread I follow on the Apple Support Community forums (100+ pages now):

F**K THIS S**T

Bought a SAPPHIRE RADEON HD6670 for 90$

Shoved it up the PCIeX 16X

Booted up using GraphicsEnabler=no

FTW

To be honest, in one week I never saw any glitche. Only some freezing, about 1 time a day (working 16 in 24h) and it allways happen when I am using google chrome.

Do you think a hd6870 will solve the freeze problem?

hello,

i'm having this issue on a notebook. this issue rather seems to occur far less on 10.7.1, but it still does blow up the whole graphics engine from time to time.

have there been any new developments?

seek and you shall find.

so this particular patching suggested by revogirl is a huge improvement, though still not lag and artifact-free, it's still way better. i patched it down to 256 mb on 10.7.3. mission control is unusable and the menubar (just the icons on the right) triggers the hang.

i used to have a laptop with discrete graphics and never saw the hang. then i got a lenovo 420 with i5 +HD3000 only (company provided) and it hangs all the time (lion 10.7.3 or 10.7.4) ... so much so that is it unbearable (un-usable) when using the LCD screen.

the only way i can use the laptop is:
1) use external monitor (without extended/mirrored screen on LCD = shut lid)
or
2) remove AppleIntelHD3000Graphics.kext (and use the non-accelerated) and use standard/default graphics.

this mode works for office work and browsing - some video apps wont work. But atleast I can use LCD without any buffer hangs.

searched high/low for a fix/resolution. did all kinds SNBGraphics kext patching to no avail. ... i rarely get any glitches - but the freezing is/was a killer. got believe it is an accelerator driver issue.

may have to ditch the company box and get a new box with discrete card. Not sure if HD4000 will work any better ... waiting to see how Ivy bridge (with hd4000) pans out for folks.
