[Guide] Intel Skylake NUC6 (and Skull Canyon) using Clover UEFI (NUC6i5SYK, NUC6i7KYK, etc)

As per post #1, you cannot expect to be able to turn the display off.
But sleep should work.
What monitor?
What hardware?

Acer B286HK
NUC6i7KYK

Ive tried both the mini DP and full size DP port with different cables.

I think the monitor effectively turns itself off when the DP signal goes away because its switching to other inputs before finding no signal on all and going to powersave. Based on what you've said, I doubt it will work unless hotplug is fixed.

Why isn't your profile filled out as requested in the guide?

Sorry, its attached now.

System details must be in your profile.
The Acer B286HK is a 4k monitor.
No experience with any 4k equipment here (not mainstream, early adopter penalty still looms large).

There is no "full size DP" port on the NUC6i7KYK. Only mini-DP and HDMI.
Your ioreg shows the monitor connected via the mini-DP.

That's going to be a problem. If it drops the connection due to loss of signal, you're back to a hotplug scenario, which has known problems. Like I said, I lose signal on my NUC here and there. I think it has to do with cabling or a vibration problem as it only happens when I sit down a the desk or leave it.

As per guide, you should not be using iMac17,1.

Oops, I meant the 2 ports on the monitor. I have a miniDP to miniDP and miniDP to full DP cable; I've tried both in case its a cabling issue or the miniDP/fullDP port on the monitor just misbehaves.

As per guide, you should not be using iMac17,1.

I've been testing some different things here and there. I started on 14,2 as suggested by the guide when I ran into this problem.

I suspected that, thanks for confirming. Won't waste any more of your time on this since its just a hotplug issue at the end of the day.

I wonder if it has something to do with IGPU PM!? I just tried banging on my desk to simulate the act of sitting down at it (vibration theory)... nothing happened.

So... maybe it is after the IGPU goes to idle state... and then I come back to sit down and the mouse moves a little (still strange)??? I don't know...

I'm going to run without IGPU PM for a bit and see what happens:
- change GFX0->IGPU to rename GFX0->IGPX instead
- change all IGPU in SSDT-IGPU.aml to IGPX

I've got hotplug working, however getting some artifacting/flickering after hotplug.
By using SMBIOS 17,1 (I had serious issues with 14,2 and 4K monitor) and this kext patch:
https://pikeralpha.wordpress.com/2015/11/23/patching-applegraphicsdevicepolicy-kext/
Tested this with sleep, monitor off, and completely disconnecting the DP cable. All work (with artifacting/flickering).

Going to try this for the flicker/artifacts...

Well, the results are already in... not related to IGPU PM...

I'll see what happens with iMac17,1... have not tested that for a while.
Note: I'm actually using iMac14,1 currently.

Injecting GfxYTile only affects a black/flicker on the left menubar. And that particular problem doesn't seem to happen with Iris Graphics (in my experience not happening on Iris 540 or Iris 580). Injecting the property seems to have no effect with our Skylake system.

Yeah, found the same from trialing it too.

I suggest you purchase RAM that is recommended by Intel.
This guide does not provide any advice regarding bluetooth hardware. There are BT dongles that are compatible with the BrcmPatchRAM kexts, which are already installed by this guide (read pinned threads in the networking forum).
Commands like 'git' are downloaded/installed automatically when you follow the instructions in post #1.

Thanks. Sorry another simple question:

In post 1 there are two different links to creating the installation drive:

This one (http://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guide-el-capitan-on-the-intel-skylake-nuc.183839/) which seems easier and uses disk utility app

This one (https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guide-booting-the-os-x-installer-on-laptops-with-clover.148093/) that seems more complicated with more steps and uses command lines

Is there a difference and do I need to follow the second one you reference?

Thanks.

That guide is unrelated to this guide. I just provided that link to show that others have created guides for similar computers (that guide happens to not include Skull Canyon).

This is the guide recommended for this thread...
It is not as difficult as it looks, and you might actually learn something.
