If you think there is an issue with your config, read post #1, "Problem Reporting"...
I think it is still too hot, maybe you can see something wrong :)

I'm using alc280test at the moment, RehabMan can point out what is in there and not.
  • Without headphone connected, speakers and microphone are working through onboard.
  • With only headphone connected (3 pin), headphone and speakers produce no sound, but onboard microphone is working (as expected).
  • With headphone + microphone connected (4 pin), headphone and speakers again produce no sound, but the external microphone is working.

OK... so I was wrong in my understanding of the current state: I was thinking that with the mic/headphone connected, you still had sound from the speakers. But really everything is working except no audio from headphones when plugged in.

Perhaps you should detail what happens with 'master'. My understanding: no extmic support at all, but working headphones.

I see nothing wrong.

Try EC reset.

Define "too hot".
Too hot as your hands get so warm ... you don't want to work behind your computer anymore.
Just tried out 'SSDT-FAN-MOD.aml' and the fan immediately came on for like a minute ... now it's quiet and cool again.

Will try an EC reset with 'SSDT-FAN-READ.aml' and see what happens.

No. I mean what are the temperatures of your CPU?

Just tried out 'SSDT-FAN-MOD.aml' and the fan immediately came on for like a minute ... now it's quiet and cool again.

On battery or AC? Do you have the BIOS set for fan always on? FAN-MOD will keep the fan at the lowest setting until the CPU heatsink temp goes above 57C.

You can see the relationship between temp and fan speed here:
Code:
        // another alternate by RehabMan
        Name(FTA1, Package()
        {
             /*35,*/  57,  58,  59,  57,  60,  61,  62,  63,  64,
             65,  66,  67,  68,  69,  70,  71,  72,  73,  74,
             75, 0xFF
        })
        Name(FTA2, Package()
        {
            /*255,*/ 128, 122, 115, 110, 109, 103,  96,  90,  87,
            85,   82,  80,  77,  73,  68,  64,  59,  56,  52,
            49, 0
        })
        Name (FCTU, 20) // timeout for changes (fan rpm going up)
        Name (FCTD, 40) // timeout for changes (fan rpm going down)

These tables can be tweaked to your liking...

Note: Bigger numbers in FTA2 are slower fan speeds.

Will try an EC reset with 'SSDT-FAN-READ.aml' and see what happens.

Yes.

@Theetjuh can confirm, but my understanding...

With original ALC280 combo jack files....
- combojack is working for switching input
- headphone is detecting the switch, but output continues from speakers

(I got them from another post where a user reported them working on a different HP, I can probably dig it up, or you can see the files in Resources_ProBook. ALC280 in this repo uses layout-id 4, PathMap 4)

Original ALC280 (no combo jack)
- combojack not working (it isn't in the files)
- headphone works as expected

Note: Just now I reverted 'master' to the ALC280 without combo jack support (but working headphone).
I will provide you with other files to a test
fast.

Perhaps you should detail what happens with 'master'. My understanding: no extmic support at all, but working headphones.
From what I remember, both headphone and microphone didn't work when connected.
As it is detected, the speakers and onboard microphone stop as well.

I then needed to test out 'alc280combo' and with that one worked only the microphone, but since also the headphone was detected the speakers didn't work anymore.

I then needed to change a line of code, that didn't do nothing to 'alc280combo' but made the headphone work with a back-in-time branch of 'master', but still the external microphone didn't work.

I could test 'master' again?

btw I didn't change the 0x1a code anymore since a while ... I just noticed that now with summing this all up :crazy:

Where can I find the temperature?

Am mostly on AC and the first thing I always disable is fan always on, so it's off.
Will do EC reset now.

Earlier, I thought you said the headphones worked. Please test again.

I then needed to test out 'alc280combo' and with that one worked only the microphone, but since also the headphone was detected the speakers didn't work anymore.

But that change is reverted now.

I then needed to change a line of code, that didn't do nothing to 'alc280combo' but made the headphone work with a back-in-time branch of 'master', but still the external microphone didn't work.

Not sure what you're referring to as far as "change a line of code" (there are lots of "lines of code" in the repo).

I think we are only interested in current results from the current 'master' and 'alc280test'.

How low can the fan run at is there anyway I can change the fan mod to where the Fan comes on at higher temps or maybe change the fan speeds at higher temperatures? The i7 I've got gets so hot lol and the fan comes on pretty much all the time at 68 to 71 is worst and that's just browsing etc but rendering video exporting is very loud.
