Interesting. That doesn't seem to be exactly my problem, but it seems likely that the combination I chose could be behind it. I wasn't aware of this, but I always suspected something was wrong with my setup, as my system couldn't handle Mountain Lion 10.8.3 and up. I will look into it, and perhaps think about getting a different motherboard. I will report later in case someone else ever gets the same problem.

Thanks for showing me the article!
BTW, I love my Zorro setup. It's fast enough and just plain works with OS X. Although benchmarks will tell a difference, I can't tell the difference in my applications with Zorro vs. Thunderball.

Good to know! I will probably keep the Z68X and build another hack with a Sandy Bridge processor in the future. Just gonna start with getting a new motherboard, probably a Z77, as it'll be cheaper and allow me to keep my processor, which I like a lot.

By the way, if anyone else gets this problem, the AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB.kext fix mentioned in the article didn't fix my problem, the exact same thing keeps happening. I only found someone in Russia who appears to have the same problem, so I gotta assume it's something with my configuration, for being so rare. I will try a couple more fresh installs in the coming days with different configurations because, why the hell not, but I'll be getting a new motherboard regardless. Probably won't get around to installing it until January, though, as I'm going away for a bit in a week, so we'll have to wait to see if it solves it.

So in case anyone ends up here with a similar problem, I changed the motherboard to a GA-Z77-DS3H, and it worked. The installation was incredibly easy.

Of course, I'm having a bit of trouble with the post installation now, but I've created another topic for that. If anyone has any advice on it, I would really appreciate the help:

Here's the step by step way to update:
:ch: Repair Permissions using the Disk Utility on the drive to be updated;*
:ch: Use the Software Update to download and install 10.9.1;
:ch: Re-boot;
:ch: Run MultiBeast v6.01+ and just select Audio>With DSDT>ALC889 driver to install;
:ch: Re-boot; and
:ch: Repair Permissions again.
:thumbup:

* You can use the Terminal instead of Disk Utility if you feel comfortable with a UNIX command:
Code:
sudo diskutil repairPermissions /

my new hard drive just arrived today and is currently being cloned right now so im going to try to update to mavericks from lion. ive just ordered mountain lion incase mavericks isnt very stable.

anyway, this might seem like a really daft question but i dont want to mess things up.

on this pic, you selected i7. do we need to select that anyway, or does it depend on if your processor is i5 or i7?

Bobster,
Yes, if you have a Sandy Bridge i5 or i7 K processor, you'll need to select the appropriate SSD. See page 9 in the MultiBeast Features document at MultiBeast.com (or, if you still have an older version MultiBeast, the Features document came with pre MultiBeast v6 (v5.5.5 and early)).

Hambone-

Any luck getting audio to work?

I'm in the same boat and cannot get audio working. Was working fine under 10.7 Lion...

Tried using DSDT and still doesn't work...

Thoughts?

Hi Stork, I tried to follow your instructions on my system: Z68X-UD3H-B3, i7-2600K, 16Gb, Ati 6850

I have my first stop after the upgrade to Mavericks, at the first boot nothing happens, so I tried the "-x" and it starts.
Then I disabled the privacy control and launch MultiBeast, but it said that an error occur and to look at the log file. But I can't find the log file :(

Could you help me??

Open the Console in the Utilities folder. On the left side of the window there's some "Log files." The Install Log file will be there somewhere.

It seems that the AppleHDA failed.
