Installation Prerequisites

  • A GA-H170N-WIFI build

Where do I find A GA-H170N-WIFI build for a hackintosh mini with graphics card? EDIT: You listed the parts to your build, but I wouldn't know what to do with them once I got them. Is there a guide for how to put them together. I guess its obvious, haven't done this before :)

Hi there ammulder!

I'm really temped to try this build as my first Hackintosh project. I though have some questions, because I need it to have a GPU, not something fancy, I was just thinking of a EVGA GTX 750 Ti SC. This is mainly because I have an 2560 x 1440 display, which I will need to connect to the machine, and what from I can read, with your build only 1080p will be the max. Also, I would like to be able to do some light gaming on it once in a while, but nothing crazy.

Therefore, I would like to ask: If I do this build in a larger case with the GTX 750 Ti SC graphics card, will I then also need to change some of the other parts on your lists due to higher power need? I'm specifically thinking about the power supply and also the fan here, as I don't know if the Noctua you've listed is big enough to cool down the machine if it has a GPU also.

Hope my question makes sense, thanks in advance!

Run the Pixel Clock Patch and you won't need a GPU. You can do 1440p via the HDMI port. I have this exact build running a 1440p monitor via HDMI flawlessly without a GPU.

Hello Everyone.

Just completed my first build using ammulder's fantastic guide. The only issue I not able to resolve is the memory expression.

I'm using Corsair 2x16GB modules for a total of 32 GB. Initially OS X indicated I had 16 GB of 2133 DD4. So I manually edited the memory size of each module in the config.plist file and modified the remaining settings as suggested in ammulders guide. Now OS X knows I have 32 GB of ram, but all other details are unknown.

  • About this Mac\Overview simply reads "32 GB ???"
  • About this Mac\Memory "Your Mac contains 0 memory slots, each of which accepts a ??? memory module. No user-installable memory slots exist."
  • System Report\Memory says "There was an error while gathering this information"
In every other respect, the system appears to be aware of installed ram and is working normally, so the issues seems to be cosmetic, but I'm still keen to try and find a solution.

Any and all suggestions welcome.

Cheers.

Hey I had the exact same problem on my Hackintosh with the Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4@3000MHz.
The solution is as follows

- Open the config.plist in a text editor (Atom, Sublime Text or similar)
- Edit the size of the memories to 16384 MB each
- Save the file and close the editor
- Open Clover configurator and load the config.plist
- Under the SMBIOS tab make sure that the parameters are all filled in
- Slot: 0 and 2 (VERY important)
- Size: 16384
- Frequency: Since mine are 3000 i used 2600 that is the maximum I have available in the dropdown (will test with 3000 changing he config.plist directly)
- Vendor: Corsair
- Part: check online or make one up
- Serial:<make a random 12 characters string up>
- Type: DDR 4
- Make sure Channels is set to Dual Channel and slot count is set to 4
- Save changes (File -> Save)
- Reboot

Find the screenshot attached as an example of my config

  • Unfortunately when I speed test the results are around 80-150 MB/sec in both read and write (Tested multiple removable drives)
  • When I connect more than 2 usb peripherals, my WiFi dongle stops working and/or the other drives don't work properly having copy speed that oscillates between 40MB/sec to zero, on and off as they were connecting/disconnecting constantly
Can you guys please help?

On a side note I would also know if any of you have got problem with dual screen displays. I can't seem to be able to use 2 1080p monitors, one for each HDMI [this is a marginal problem at the moment and my focus is on the USB for now].

Thanks!
Mike
