It worked initially by using those boot flags but then when I rebooted it now just hangs on ATHR: unknown locale: 21. I checked the boot.plist and none of my original flags were there just nvda_drv=1 which is probably why the bootloader looked different. Any ideas on how to fix it, using HDMI seemed to have improved it but it is still not fully working.

Ok so since my previous reply I rebooted a few times and got into the OS eventually using the flags you provided. I added them to boot.plist and have had no issues booting now. Working via HDMI, not a big issue as I'm using a 1080p 60Hz monitor. Thank you for your help all sorted now.

Why do you need to reboot several times before getting it to work?
Actually I had a very similar problem as you do. The NVIDIA web driver will erase everything in your boot.chameleon.plist, except for one line "nvda_drv=1".
That's why you get a strange icon instead of Apple and got back screen
