Gigabyte B550 Vision D (Thunderbolt 3) + AMD Ryzen 7 3700X + AMD RX 5600 XT

Are any of you experiencing intermittent kernel panics with this board? It happens just enough, that it is bothersome. If I turn on my computer, and let it sit for some minutes before I get to it, it is often frozen.

I am running 11.6 with OC 0.7.4.

The first line in the system report is: Panic(CPU 0, time 68597775379): NMIPI for unresponsive processor: TLB flush timeout, TLB state:0x0

I am including the report below in the textfile.
Some comments / suggestions:
  • Did the problem start recently (such as after OpenCore 0.7.4) or has it existed for some time?
  • Have any hardware components changed recently?
  • What are the makes/models of all internal NVMe SSDs?
  • Please post screenshots of the following, using OpenCore Configurator 2.51.0.0 (or newer) set to "OpenCore 0.7.4 Release Version":
    • ACPI --> Add
    • Kernel --> Add
    • Kernel --> Patch
    • Misc --> Security
    • UEFI --> APFS
    • UEFI --> Drivers

  • This has been a problem since I got the system. I've just lived with it.
  • No. I did however enable TPM2.0 for Win11, but this probably was an issue before this.
  • I have two WD Black SN750 1TB installed.
  • See below
And thank you.

Some follow-ups:
  • Are you using a 12-core Ryzen processor?
  • Have you tried unchecking NVMeFix.kext in the Kernel --> Add section?
Other:
  • Some people have reported problems/incompatibility with WD SN750 NVMe SSDs. The problem may be isolated to certain versions of the SN750 firmware.
    • Do you know how to check SN750 firmware version?
    • Do you know how to upgrade SN750 firmware?

  • Yes, a Ryzen 5900x.
  • No, I was afraid that it would make the system unbootable.
Both are running the latest firmware as per WD Dashboard (111110WD)

No, but I can find out. Is it with WD dashboard?
It's perfectly okay to uncheck NVMeFix.kext.

Regarding SN750 firmware update, WD Dashboard seems to be the right software. It requires Windows, however.

Please try:
  • Uncheck NVMeFix.kext from Kernel --> Add
  • Uncheck the three drivers below from UEFI --> Drivers

  • Post screenshot of /Library/Extensions folder

I will disable NVMeFix, OpenLinuxBoot and ext4_x64. However I need OpenUSBKbdxe for my keyboard to work in the OS bootpicker, without that I can’t pick what to boot.

Well, now my system wont boot. There just the Apple logo but no progress indicator. Is that normal? I should have a usb-boot drive though.

Try shutting down the system and flipping power switch on PSU to OFF for 10 seconds. Then power up and see if macOS will boot.

If it still freezes, then boot from the USB flash disk.

If NVMeFix.kext is necessary for your system -- and I am not yet convinced that this kext is necessary -- then it means the WD SN750 with latest firmware may be the problem.

Experiment #1:
  • Do you have Windows or Linux on this system?
  • If so, does Windows and/or Linux run reliably? No crashes?
    • If no crashes, it means your hardware is okay (memory, CPU, GPU, motherboard, PSU).
Experiment #2:
  • Do you have a SATA SSD? Even a cheap 128GB SATA SSD is okay.
  • Do you have a USB 3.0 enclosure for the SATA SSD such as this one?
    • If not, you can install the SATA SSD internally.
  • Shut down the system and flip power switch on PSU to OFF (Important).
  • Physically remove all WD SN750 NVMe SSDs from the system.
  • Power up the system.
  • Install macOS on the SATA SSD.
  • When installation is done, use macOS for several hours to see if the system remains stable.

I am so sorry, disregard my “nvmefix.kext” problem, user error on my part. Apologies. The system boots fine, with NVMeFix.kext disabled.

I will report back if the issue is fixed or not. Thanks a lot for your help
