Hi, Specs are as followed:
MSI Z370-A PRO
Intel Core i7-8700K 3.7GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 8GB
32GB Ram
OSX HS 10.13.6 (latest update)

So I need for working not to have to use the FN key for f1, f2 etc, I have googled and seen I needed to check an option in keyboard prefs called "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" by doing the following...
  1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
  2. Click Keyboard.
  3. Click the Keyboard tab if it's not already highlighted.
  4. Select "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys"
However, on my build, I don't have that option visible! So I tried the following...

(No Luck)

My keyboard is the new Cherry brand one.

In short, to use f1 i don't want to have to press fn+F1.

It's the default for generic keyboards.

The keyboard is probably sending the wrong key codes. In /Library/Keyboard Layouts you might be able to create an override layout.

any ideas on how to fix?

So the app does not show anything for the F keys only normal keys like a,b, c, 1,2,3 etc. also there is nothing in my layout folder :/

I think the problem is with the hardware, maybe it is built with Windows OS features in mind? On macOS it won't send anything unless you press FN.

Maybe but the keyboard is made for mac as in it has no windows keys etc. I used Karabiner-EventViewer app to see what code is used when using F1 without the FN key and its 0x69 (F14) when i press FN+F1 I get 0x3a (F1) the code for FN is 0x10002 does that help?

Can you not use Karabiner Elements to remap the keys?
