64-bit Kernel Extension: Yes (!!!!!) Thats how you know your machine is in 64bit goodness!

sorry if this was already asked, but what's the benefit of a full 64bit installation?
Th only real benefit is if you have applications that can use more than 4GB of real memory.

Please correct me if I am wrong but I think that even the kernel is booting up in 32bit it is possible to run applications in 64bit mode, e.g. Photoshop CS5.

that can't be right since my machine recognizes all 6gb of mem and run cinebench 11.5 in 64bit mode. macman's response makes most sense, which is for a single application to access more than 4gb of mem, but this has to be a very select few that would recognize the benefits.

Unlike Windows, the OS X 32-bit kernel can address and use more than 4GB of RAM and run 64-bit applications.

Thank you, to everybody.

1 Hour for software installing 32 bit
1 Hour more for 64bit

Also nice was that I didn't had to look, for the best computer-parts at the moment. I just bored the part who are compatible. And the machine is fast. 4 x 4 Ghz.
Only Sleeping with hard-disks on the SATA 3 Ports don't work. But normally 8x SATA 2 is enough.

Thanks a lot.

Hey man - thanks for the info - please write up your experiences in the User Build section and help out the community!

Glad you've got 64 bit working!

P.S. Have you tried disabling SATA 3 in the BIOS? You should be able to set the ports to run at SATA 2 only

Lol, well I'm glad that people are getting into other topics on my thread. I use 64bit because it's the WAY OF THE FUTURE! THE WAY OF THE FUTURE! THE WAY OF THE FUTURE! haha but really, its because I thought 32bit was kind of lame. I spent the money buying a good system that CAN run 64bit, so why not have it run at peak efficiency? At the moment I haven't got any applications that use more than the 4GB of RAM I've got. Why do you want Windows 7 to run in 64bit mode? Exactly.

Anyway, If people are not really going to use this thread for what it was meant, I may just delete it. Or, if the moderators wouldn't mind moving it so that those who come across the thread looking for help might be able to figure out what the heck is going on. Thanks!

Do not be pissed! Would be a shame if this discussion will lead to the end that you quit your participation.

This thread is now definitively offtopic and we should quit the sappy fights of running a system in 32 or 64bit mode. In the end anyone of us makes his choice.
In my opinion the moderators should close this thread now, otherwise this nice howto gets irrecoverablely damaged.

Thanks Scatman, yes I would hope that the bickering would stop, because it is a choice to run your system in 64bit. I just thought that I should put up a guide so that others who wanted to run 64bit in true form would be able to figure out how to do so without having to spend the time trolling the servers like I did. It was actually my hope to see this be used as an actual guide, though I think some people have been having issues with it. Anyway, whatever the result I hope people still find it useful.
