Thanks for responding in my other thread lnx2Mac!
:thumbup:

Is this the real-world limit? The Max output I can get is 645 Mbit/s
That's quite slow...
I get around 950 on one way, or 850/850 both-ways... But I'm using top-notch cabling...

Thanks to Belmore, this time I used the "time cp" command and copied the Mac 10.6.7 OSXCombo update to my Windows file server.

net.inet.tcp.delayed_ack=2
time = 22.009 seconds to copy the 1.06GB OSX combo file

But doing simple math, that equates to only 48 MB/s. ... instead of the 80MB/s number I got above. Where did the rest go? Overhead? or slow hard disk speed (RAID 1).

That's the reason why I test with netperf...
Doing tests like these involves: Disk I/O, file-system, etc.
Too much overhead to be able to identify if the issue is networking or not.

Will other computers running on the network affect my speed tests?

I think my wife was listening to streaming radio and another computer doing Crashplan online backsup when I did these tests... but they're not connecting to the file server, but to the Internet.... though all our connections are going to the same switch.

Could be. Depends on the switch.
