to run in HiDPI mode u get max of half your native resolution. For my rMBP its res was 2880x1800 so HiDPI mode was 1440x900. To get true HiDPI 1920x1080 you need a display capable of 3840x2160.

As for that 4k where did u get a 4k computer display and what interface does it use?

You can still override it, but I don't think your display will show anything. Right me down the result of the following:
Code:
ioreg -l | grep IODisplayEDID

hbs-mac-pro:~ Hanif$ ioreg -l | grep IODisplayEDID
| | | | | "IODisplayEDID" = <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>

Oh my why would u force a EDID for the display to use an unsupported resolution? if the display doesn't have the physical pixels to accommodate that HiDPI mode you should never try to force it, you won't actually get that HiDPI mode.

damn it so that MacBook Pro 15" display can handle 1440x900 retina but my monitor can't? Bullcrap there has to be a way

Can you not do simple math? 1440x900 requires 2880x1800 which your display does not have. Yours is 2560x1440, divide that by 2 and u get 1280x720, if the display doesn't have the physical pixels to accommodate the res what do u expect? A miracle?

hahaha I have a crappy monitor? Do you even know what I am using? It's a CROSSOVER 27Q - the same display the Apply Thunderbolt monitors use!

Your too funny, you say you hav a 4k display then say that lol

Thats far from being a 4k display. The cheapest real 4k computer display is a Sharp 32" @ $5500 US.
