I have two DELL Optiplex 755 MiniTower with A19 Bios. I have MacOS Mountain Lion 10.8.4 running on one of them using UniBeast, Multibeast (using the latest mountain lion versions) with guidance from youtube tutorials of CPUKid. The other one is still running Lion 10.7.5.

I needed to add a Discrete GPU, so I bought two of these: Galaxy GT640 ($45 each):
http://www.galaxytechus.com/__US__/Product6/ProductDetail?proID=22&isStop=0

It fits into the Dell 755 MT case perfectly.

The following is Speccy output, I believe, when I had Windows on one of them.

The options you want to select in MultiBeast are:
(no DSDT was used and no additional NV Kexts were needed)

EasyBeast
Intel hnak AppleIntelE1000e.kext v2.4.14
VoodooHDA 2.8.4
GraphicsEnabler=No
VerboseBoot
MacPro 3,1

Personalization:

Add CarbonCopy (http://www.bombich.com/)
Add Kext Wizard
Add Chameleon Wizard (http://www.osx86.net/view/3881-chameleon_wizard_4.2.2.html)
Add Flash (http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/)
Add Chrome (https://www.google.com/intl/en/chro...gn=en&utm_source=en-ha-na-us-bk&utm_medium=ha)

Issues Resolved / Working:

HDMI Video and Audio works with Voodoo 2.8.4 (not with 2.7.3 though) Use the second Digital Channel in Preferences/Sound
DVI->HDMI working for video or audio. Use the third / last Digital Channel in Preferences/Sound.
Three Displays working simultaneously (VGA, DVI-HDMI w/Audio, HDMI w/Audio). Audio only on one of them, obviously.
Does not wake from Sleep. Changed BIOS setting from S3 to S1 to get it working somewhat.
(Old problem) Can not log onto AppStore:
@EFI strings in /Extra/org.chameleon.Boot.plist
@delete network interfaces
@delete Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist
@reboot
@add network interface Ethernet (no en0!)

Issues that Remain:

Sleep/Wake: Does not Wake with BIOS Setting S3

You got the GS8400 to work. I could never get this one to even boot:EVGA 512-P3-1300-LR GeForce 8400 GS 512MB 32-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Video Card.

Also, was just experimenting with DSDT and I got a DSDT for the MT Dell 755 generated by this tool (http://sourceforge.net/projects/dpcimanager/) to load unmodified with no ill-effects. I don't need a DSDT, though, I was just attempting to get more familiar with DSDT generation and use.

Yeah, I too had the GS8400 working up through 10.7.5. It was with 10.8.4 that gave me grief with the EVGA card (mentioned above).

Zotac GS8400, apparently, is more compatible with MacOS than the EVGA version that I have.

ebrunson, how did you get the video card to fit? I bought the same one based on your recommendation and its way too big, are you removing the fan?

My recommendation only applies to the MiniTower version.
Dell has a few form-factors of the Optiplex 755.
You must have other than the MiniTower form factor -- example SFF (Small Form Factor) version.

Hey guys! I been trying to figure out this Dell Optiplex 755 w/ML or Mavericks and its just kicking my butt!

Using iBoot w/SL DVD I can install and get up in running quite easily! However SL does not support Xcode 5 so I need to upgrade to ML or Mavericks. However when I boot to iBoot and using a Mavericks install USB I do not see my HDD. Its set as AHCI in the bios, and SL does recognize it. From reading these forums and others, I have found out I need the IOATAFamily.kext put in System/Library/Extras on the USB boot. Trying this I am now getting an crash on launch: Unable to find driver for this platform ACPI.

Can someone help me figure this out? Thanks!

I think my issue may be that i am booting off iBoot as the UniBeast USB wasnt bootable. Going to work with making the USB from Unibeast bootable.

I'm having the same trouble with a 755 SFF that I just got from overstock.com: won't recognize the hard drive with the Maverick USB. However mine is the UniBeast version, so I don't know how to fix it.
I went ahead with my older 10.8 unibeast stick and that worked mostly fine.

Side note: my bios is ancient, A07. Is there a way to update it without booting into Windows and doing it from there?
Does it matter?

I have been looking all over the web at posts like this, and I have a problem which I believe is similar to other people's: the 755 I have is ULTRA SFF, not just regular, which means no expansion ports whatsoever. I.E. Getting another video card is physically impossible; it's not a matter of finances. Does anyone out there know if anyone has come up with a way to display high resolutions or even better enable graphics acceleration on this Q35 graphics chipset?
