As we approach 2018, I'm planing a new build to replace my current hack. I'm currently eyeing an x299, i9-X7900 setup. My main use is Lightroom, and naturally the first thing I've done is seek out some Lr cpu benchmarks...Everything I can find tells the same story; that cpu performance with Lightroom has some seriously diminishing returns in the higher end. It seems the performance gains are not in-line with overall cpu performance when it comes to Lightroom, and a bit of a mixed bag at best. I was kind of hoping that I could through the best cpu/system that I could reasonably afford to build, and Lightroom would utilize the respective gains in performance, but it looks like that's not how it works with Lightroom. It actually looks like anything beyond 4 cores is wasted on the software, and my best bet is just to go with the highest clock speed that 4 cores can offer.
Does anyone have any advice for building a Lightroom optimized system for 2018?
