Cannot update to 10.14.2

I pressed F2 right before I uploaded the files. Pretty sure I done it right since I could see HDD activity for 1 sec once I pressed F2.

I searched your preboot.log for 'macOS Install' and didn't find it.

Perhaps you should update with USB Clover setup.

Just tried updating using the 10.14.2 dmg and I get the same problem. I'm guessing it has something to do with running macOS from an external HDD. I will try SATA connection once I get an SSD. Because APFS is terribly slow on mechanical drives...

So I will…
-Create bootable USB with installer.
-Use config.plist from the guide.
-Install 10.14.2 on top of my 10.14.1 install.
Correct?
