Hey guys... I'm have a question. (As I'm sure you could tell from the topic title)

I know it's 3003 Aluminum, but as far as the perforated front/back goes...
I've done a lot of reading, and I mean a lot. What I've gathered is the holes are 3mm in thickness.

Is there any way, other than cutting another G5/Mac Pro case, to get sheets of the 3mm perforated aluminum?

And, since I don't have my case yet, I don't know the exact width of those parts either. Any info?

Note: I did read that it's 4mm think (which roughly comes up to .15") and I couldn't find anything super close on here.

The perforated parts are much thinner than 4 mm.
I should have some scrap parts from my mod that admit direct measuring.. If you have patience when I go home I'll measure it.

What's a modder without patience, aye?
I'd be more than happy to wait for real measurements.

I want it done right the first time. ;)
And I appreciate the help.

what do you want to know ? hole diameter or sheet thickness?

He knows the diameter is 3mm for the holes. So just thickness.

Once it's all known we should stick it in the g5 resource thread.

My G5 rear I/O (I have kept as a desk sample) is 1.4mm thick; holes 3.04mm diameter, on 6.2 centers with alternate rows spaced to 3.04 centers.

The measurements made with a Mitutoyo digital calipers.

Neil, thanks for making it before me. 1.4 mm it is.

If you're in the UK, I've recently been searching myself and found it fairly difficult to get hold of something like this. However eventually found this guy:

At £2 a sheet it is a steal but they don't do any other sizes then those ones, and is 3mm hole diameter and only 1mm thick.

The hole spacing is also slightly different but if you're replacing the whole of the back you won't be able to notice.

So this has caught my interest as I am casting around for a new project.

I have bought metal from OnlineMetals.com in the past. These people are located in Seattle, Washington, USA which is good for me. We are in the same time zone.

They have a selection of perforated sheet. The one that caught my eye just now is:
http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cf ... &top_cat=0

And the prices appear within reach of the hacker.

The 0.125 inch hole size is apx 3.15 mm and the thickness is apx 1.5 mm.

Okay, thanks Niel! I think I've seen that page at onlinemetals. I may see if I can get 1.4mm sheets of 3003 and see if a local shop can do the holes, if not I'll have to go online.
