I went away and installed voodoo kext for via vt2021 from multibeast like you suggested earlier and it broke everything. No audio devices are recognised and now if i go to voodoo pref pane I get the error cant get registry-entry path

VIA has a habit of breaking installations - its a poor quality audio chip. I suggest that you remove the VoodooHDA form System/Library/Extensions and VoodooHDA.prefPane in /system/Library/PreferencePanes to the trash/empty trash. Rebuild caches (DCPIManager) and repair permissions using Disk Utility. Reboot and repair Disk permissions again. This will ensure that all traces of VoodooHda for VIA VT2021 are flushed out of your installation.
