ALC889 / VT2021 Microphone

So I have ML set up on my computer which has a GA-G41MT-S2P Motherboard which correct me if I am wrong uses ALC889 / VIA VT2021 driver for audio. Now I want to use it for games and things, so I connected my microphone, but the problem is, it does not work. If I listen to it through skype all i get is basically buzzing, and nothing else. I've tried voodoo hda and all sorts but I just cannot get it to work.

Thanks in advance

The Gigabyte website shows that there are two versions of this motherboard

REV1.3 has VIA VT2021 audio chip

REV 1.4 has ALC889 audio chip

With this in mind and assuming that your board has VIA VT2021 audio then the best option is probably to look online for a http://www.tonymacx86.com/audio/98115-simple-plug-n-play-usb-audio-device-os-x.html
These can be bought cheaply - pick one that has both a Microphone and headphone/audio output for your needs. The drivers for these are built into OS X.

Yes it is rev 1.3 so yh it must be using vt2021. But im using alc889 kext and normal sound is working fine. Is there a kext i could try for vt2021?

Keep in mind i've used voodoo in the past and it was pretty much useless

Yes - but I suggest that you read the comments about VIA audio in the Simple USB audio link I posted before you try.

Ok. Before I read this i reinstalled voodoo. I changed some things and I have it at the stage where I can hear myself, the mic is working and i can hear it through my headset. The problem now is that I can't get apple to use that input. The one input all the programs recognise is causing crackling and stuff, and isn't using the actual input. Restarting and stuff doesn't help

Is there any settings in the Audio MIDI Setup that might help here?

Adrian B

Nope. Midi doesnt seem to recognise it at all.

Then I think the only solution left is a simple USB sound card with a microphone input. It will give crystal clear audio and will work with OS X.
