No, but it's all vanilla... Changed nothing. Installed 10.9.2 and then updated 10.9.4.

Assuming you installed via official Mac App Store download, and didn't accidently install something along the way related to networking (that you now forgot about)...

I have no further ideas for you then...

Hey rehabman,

Now some updated info:
- it's actually listed as "ar928X" under 10.9.4
- locale is not set
- only Bluetooth works under 10.9.4
- under OSx 10.6.8, locale is set to DE (and device works)
- I set the locale to 0x0 (debug), using atheros windows config tool. But no change.
- in the .9.4 bootlog: "airport link down. Station leaving (error 0x8)"

Any further idea maybe?

See this thread for correct regdomain flashing: http://www.tonymacx86.com/hp-probook/97428-ar9280-athr-unknown-locale-xx-eeprom-mod.html

Note: I tend to use Linux for the EEPROM mods. It is probably linked from that thread somewhere, but here is a direct: http://blog.asiantuntijakaveri.fi/2014/08/one-of-my-atheros-ar9280-minipcie-cards.html

Still no luck... Any other ideas?

Hey RehabMan, I now replaced the WLAN card, also an Atheros40 device :p

But sadly, it still works only under OSX 10.6.8. I also replaced the IO80211 networking family from the 10.9.4 combo update, so its sure that it is the vanilla one...

This is written under OSX 10.6.8:
Code:
en0:
  Kartentyp:	AirPort Extreme (0x168C, 0x1081)
  Firmware-Version:	Atheros 9280: 2.1.14.6
  Locale:	APAC
  Länderkennung:	DE

Under OSX 10.9.4, "Länderkennung / Countrycode" is empty. I also tried to set the Locale to EU using this tool under Windows... But still it stays empty.

My questions are now:

1. Do you think that my problem is locale related? If so, should I try your linked linux tool to set the locale instead?

2. If you think the problem is another one, what else could I try? The VAIO F11 has a WLAN adapter switch. Maybe this is the problem? It is of course activated all the time...

Thanks for suggestions!

Do a fresh install to be certain.

You should set the locale correctly for your region.
