A complete mess with GA-P55-USB3

Status
Not open for further replies.
Okay, I started over with a fresh installation and made a nice screenshot collection.
My BIOS is F8 and matches the F8 DSDT.
I loaded optimized default, enabled AHCI, S3(STR), HPET 64-bit and disabled USB3.0.

The installation of 10.6.3 always works perfectly.
Then I put the DSDT.aml and MultiBeast on desktop, launch MultiBeast, but don't run it.

Then I install the 10.6.8 Combo Update, which succeeds:

Then I want to install MultiBeast, but the installer quits:

Then I rerun it with the following options:

By the way: Why do I need these options?
If I use UserDSDT, it should already install FakeSMC, Bootloader, etc.

I'm prompted for my password and I still have my first inital user:

After that it runs a while and finishes successfully with the prompt of the NIC driver installation:

The I install it, which is also successful and prompts for a restart:

I proceed with the restart, eject the iBoot CD and go directly for the "-v" option, to see what's going on at the first restart from harddisk:

As expected, it fails with no error. It just hangs:

I have to press the reset button and choose "-x -v" for the next restart:

This is it, the system is also stuck, but not frozen.
I left it running for 15 minutes to wait for some progress, but nothing happens.

This is a huge piece of crap and I'm running out of ideas at the moment.
Maybe tonymacx86 or MacMan want to share some ideas?

I can't stop and gave it a new try.
This time the installation of MultiBeast failed and the Combo installer did not crash.
But I noticed that the MultiBeast installer did not prompt for the password.

I rebootet the machine with "-x -v" and booted with iBoot, because I don't know what has been ran successfully or not and guess what - it is stuck again.

But this time I enabled remote access before, so I can access the machine via ssh while it its stuck. ;)
So we have a real log and not only a screenshot: http://pastebin.com/xXB3Vrxp

Not yet, because usually the installer crashes anyway. ;)
But I doubt that this might help, as I were already able to install both, Combo Update and MultiBeast, successfully and were also unable to boot the system afterwards in any way.

Have you try install 1-2 kext/option in multibeast each time?
After combo update, start MB with just UserDSDT and system utilities. then reboot without iboot (if not boot) then with iboot.
Then apply the next kext.

One way to find out which kext gets installed at which stage is to look into:
/Extra/Extensions/
/System/Library/Extensions/

Capture these screen with version column each time a new option is selected, then you will know exactly what kext is for what.

Doing this might help isolate and identify what caused your system not to boot after certain selection is being made.

Nope, because if I install MultiBeast with UserDSDT and system utilities, the system does not boot anymore (neither with or without iBoot), regardless of which option I choose.

My next steps are:
  • Install 10.6.3[/*:m:37x7lmal]
  • Enable Remote Access[/*:m:37x7lmal]
  • Place DSDT.aml on desktop[/*:m:37x7lmal]
  • Install 10.6.8 Combo Update[/*:m:37x7lmal]
  • Force quit installer[/*:m:37x7lmal]
  • Install MultiBeast with only UserDSDT and System Utilities task[/*:m:37x7lmal]
  • Reboot[/*:m:37x7lmal]
  • See what happens[/*:m:37x7lmal]

This is a lot of wasted time for a hardware which is regarded as "supported and working"...

Ok, here we go. This is what I did:

  • Installed 10.6.3 and booted with iBoot[/*:m:2n7u73hi]
? no problem, as usual
  • Enable Remote Access[/*:m:2n7u73hi]
? done
  • Place DSDT.aml and MultiBeast on desktop[/*:m:2n7u73hi]
? done
  • Install 10.6.8 Combo Update v1.1[/*:m:2n7u73hi]
? done with no problem
  • Force quit Combo Update installer[/*:m:2n7u73hi]
? done
  • Install MultiBeast with only UserDSDT and System Utilities task[/*:m:2n7u73hi]
? install failed
  • Saved installer.log of MultiBeast[/*:m:2n7u73hi]
? done (contains installation of OS, Combo Update and MultiBeast) install.log
  • Inserted an USB stick to save installer.log of MultiBeast[/*:m:2n7u73hi]
? system halted with "4-language-restart-sign"
  • Rebooted directly with "-x -v" option[/*:m:2n7u73hi]
? system started but rebooted itself after a while
  • Rebooted again with "-x -v" option[/*:m:2n7u73hi]
? system halted at this stage

Now it's your turn.

Do you have an older version of Multibeast to try? something like 3.6 or 3.7?
BTW, can you just select system utilities + UserDSDT during the first round? WITH no COMBO update?

Have you try these?
-Use 10.6.7 instead of 10.6.8
-Use different Multibeast version
-Re-download Multibeast

Nope.
That's what I also thought of, but I don't remember which version I used last year.

This is what I already did

Does the latest MultiBeast also work for Mac OS X version older than 10.6.8?

Not yet, but will do. :)

I really appreciate your help!
And I hope you don't get me wrong with this, but this is all trial and error.
We it be possible to do some analysis instead?
