Hello folks!

Dropping my iMac to build a new machine!

Heres my parts list - looking to make the call and order these in the next 10 days! Opinions and thoughts needed!

- ASUS ROG Maximus IX Extreme LGA1151 DDR4 DP HDMI M.2 Z270 EATX Motherboard with onboard AC Wifi

- Intel 7th Gen Intel Core Desktop Processor i7-7700K (BX80677I77700K)

- DUAL ASUS ROG-STRIX-GTX1080TI-O11G-GAMING GeForce 11GB OC Edition VR Ready 5K HD Gaming HDMI DisplayPort DVI Overclocked PC GDDR5X Graphics Card

- Dominator® Platinum Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 DRAM 2666MHz C15 Memory Kit (CMD32GX4M2A2666C15)

- Samsung SSD 960 PRO NVMe M.2 512GB

- Samsung 850 EVO 500GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-75E500B/AM)

- Seagate FireCuda Gaming SSHD 2TB SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5-Inch Notebooks / Laptops Internal Hard Drive (ST2000LX001)

- HXi Series HX1000i High-Performance ATX Power Supply — 1000 Watt 80 Plus® Platinum Certified PSU

- Case - Undecided - need something simple and plain that doesn't scream 'look at me I'm powerful' thoughts?

- Dell 27 UltraSharp Ultra HD 5K Monitor - UP2715K

- Logitech MX Master

I've never built a system - let alone a water cooled one - but I've got a few wise people helping me out. Need your guidance on custom water cooling and how do I go about it since the motherboard has an integrated waterblock.

Thanks guys!

Cheers!

Not much to say about the build....You pretty much have the best of everything and budget does not seem to be a concern.

As for a case, my choice would be the Enthoo Evolv ATX - Glass, but that's me.

It's not often that I splurge on technology this way. However, with my current system limiting our capabilities as a studio - we've taken the decision to invest and create a rig that'll be sufficient for a good while in the future.

However, I do have a noob question to ask.

I've seen a couple successfully Maximus ix builds on here - but none with the extreme variant of the motherboard - does that bring about any incompatibility issues with it? Does it change anything apart from adding thunderbolt and a few additional goodies?

Thanks again mate!

Oh that case is gorgeous!!

But based on the tech specs I've read, it can only support E-atx motherboards upto 264mm wide and the Maximus ix extreme is 272mm.

Is that margin enough to make it not fit ?

Is there another case similar to this that you would recommend?

Cheers!

If you want no doubts about enough room for an E-ATX board, liquid cooling and storage go with a full tower like the 760T by Corsair. I would buy one just for the hinged glass side door. I really hate removing and replacing thumbscrews to access the interior of my Fractal R4.

My two other recommendations are the Phanteks Enthoo Primo SE and the Corsair 900D (I have and love this case, but it is MASSIVE). Also, since money appears to not be an issue, check out Caselabs. Lastly, Lian Li makes some very attractive E-ATX cases as well.

I tried to compare the two on Asus' website but it wasn't working. I do believe they "upgraded" some of the components, like the Audio and LAN chips. If I were you I would definitely look into that before buying to ensure compatibility.

Holy crap that 900D is huge! I was looking at some of the corsair cases and I really like their design language. Caselabs website is glitching on the iPhone - will have a look at it once I'm on the computer.

Lilan-li though seems like a waste of money to me to be honest. Either they're overpriced like crazy or they really use some great materials - but I haven't seen one physically so I might be wrong to assume.

The enthoo pro is a good option! Good looking case I'll admit!

Thanks chedda!

Thanks for the heads up mate -
That's correct, they have bumped up the audio and LAN chips.

I'll try and put some screenshots on here once I'm on a computer.

Cheers!

Here are some screen shots for the comparison.

Most look fine to me - but then again - it's my first ever build. So I don't trust myself to have all the right information. Anything that you think sticks out?
