Motherboard: GA-Z77X-UD5H
Processor: Intel Core i5-3570K
RAM: 16GB Corsair 1600Mhz DDR3

I am trying to build an Ivy Bridge CustoMac Pro. I have all the pieces put together, and the BIOS is running fine. I set my primary boot to CD/DVD drive (Note: my CD/DVD drive is an ATA with an ATA-USB converter and has its own power supply) and my secondary boot to my HDD (SATA). I insert the iBoot disk, and start up my computer. Motherboard logo shows up, and then I get the iBoot screen. I insert my Mac OSX Snow Leopard Installation DVD and press F5. The the text under the glowing CD onscreen changes from "iBoot" to "Apple_HFS" (without quotes). I press enter, and it shows the grey apple logo on the white background. It never gets past that screen. I've checked many guides and followed each step carefully. What am I doing wrong?

I've also tried installing Windows XP and Ubuntu with no success, but I'd rather get OSX up and running before I worry about another OS.

I apologize for the low quality pictures, I couldn't get my camera to focus correctly. Anyway here are some screen shots:

iBoot center close-up after iBoot disk is removed, OSX DVD is inserted, F5 is pressed, and "-v" to boot in verbose (without quotes) is typed.

Enter is pressed. Two shots of the screen after following same boot process two different times. It was hard to get a good shot of the text because each line flashes on the screen quickly and then the screen goes blank.

After iBoot starts up, iBoot disk is removed and replaced with OSX disk. Verbose mode is off.

What I see indefinitely after booting in non-verbose mode.

Any help is greatly appreciated, I really want to get this computer running. Thanks so much!

Where to begin - with your hardware - the CPU is an Ivy Bridge CPU - which currently has not support in the mach_kernel for this CPU - the kernel is the core of the Apple OSX os.
Your Z77 also is very iffy as to it being able to support or work with the Apple OSX SL -
I dont think anyone has gotten this to work on SL and if you do (Big IF) you have no access to the Apple APP store to get ML.

Now if you MB supports a SandyBridge CPU - you maybe able to get this working - and their is some speculation that this is also iffy. Supposedly you can use a SB Pentium CPU as they are designed as a Core2 Duo architecture.

Whats needed is another mac that you can login to the Apple App store that has not been upgraded to LION or ML. Or some older hardware that is more compatable - like older donated hardware that meets the minimum specs for OSX SL. Core2 duo
Check Goodwill industries - for something that may meet you needs - reported that someone got a PC for $25 and had a Hack in 4 hours. Just know your specs first !

See these links for further information is needed on other who are in the same Boat -

And their are others as well -

Thanks for your help, I bought everything according to the Tonymacx86 CustoMac buyer's guide, so I thought I would be OK. I have a 2006 Mac Mini running Lion, would that help? If so, how can I use it to get my CustoMac working?

If your mac mini can get to the Apple App store and if you can select the purchase of that item ( App store checks for compatability of hardware its to be installed onto ) - and they expect it to be the Mac Mini (LOL)

Then you can use a 8 GB USB stick 2.0 spec - and make a UNIBEAST installer

See this site - UNIBEAST.com - a how to is their as well

You will need to download from TonyMacx86 downloads the MultiBeast for Mountain Lion utility to make the Thumb Drive that you boot from to install to your hardware - and if you have issues / questions you post them to the OSX Mountain Lion Desktop support section.

Your Lion install on the MINI the install file that is in the Applicatoins folder is now spent and cant be used again - you maybe able to download it again ( assuming you delete the file) - as you did purchase it from the App store or was it on the Apple White USB stick that was purchased from the local Apple Store.

If you do have the Apple USB LION install drive this could be used to make the Thumb Drive.

We have a new iBoot cd for Ivy Bridge that supports the Ivy Bridge line of CPU's and this should allow you to get you to install SL and then allow You to get to the APP store and purchase - download - make - and install a UniBeast flash Drive.

I tried the new iBoot disk, it starts up fine, I insert snow leopard, press F5, press enter, and then this screen pops up:

After restart I see this screen:

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

If your still using an ATA DVD drive and tranlsating though a ATA to USB or SATA adapter this could be why you dont see the correct volume name of the DVD that you are using - We assume your Apple DVD is White in color ( has pic of a big cat on it )

PLease see is you can get a SATA drive w SATA cable and hook it up to the SATA port and see if you can see the DVD name on the screen.

I can't believe it was that simple! I used a SATA DVD drive and now SL is up and running like no problem. Haven't installed all the MultiBeast patches and drivers etc. yet, but the OS is stable and working well. Thanks so much! :D

You might as well not bother with MultiBeast with SL on Ivy Bridge. It will never boot on its own. Download the Mountain Lion install app from the app store and create your UniBeast USB installer and install Mountain Lion.

I already have SL running on my hac, can't I just update to Mountain Lion from there?
