Looking to get a cheaper laptop for learning to code linux/unix. Will also use it for Microsoft office.
Wondering how this cheap laptop will work?
I've been a bit out of the loop on the progression of processors recently since tablet-laptops have been in the market. Is something like a...
Got a spare SSD in my tower and looking to try the last compatible OS with my system. Is Catalina my ceiling, or will I give Big Sur a try? Mostly used for A/V production and currently running Yosemite.

I'm reinstalling Yosemite after my previous hard drive failed. Had a perfectly running U430. I'm back to this guide, and a few things have changed during the install and post install process. I don't recall using Lilu/Whatevergreen etc. I followed the guide and I'm having a few issues...
Is it possible to migrate from Chameleon to Clover without starting from scratch? I'm currently on ML, and would like to go to Yosemite or higher. The caveat is my bluetooth. I tried a clean install of Clover but couldn't get my bluetooth dongle to work, which (requires a firmware mod -...

Just wanted to say thanks for the guide. My wifi card arrived yesterday... very simple.. popped it in, and it worked!
Perfectly working macbook now. Works so much better than when it had windows on it.
Thanks!
Got all audio functional now. Used a toledo patch from github and all good.
Still can't seem to get bluetooth to connect the KB and TB. I found this post, http://www.tonymacx86.com/general-help/16474-enabling-bluetooth-p8p67-boards-bt-211-a.html

I should have been clearer. My onboard audio still doesn't work - but I got both graphics working.
Audio only plays through my Duet, plugged in via Firewire.
I may just go back to Multibeast.
Got them both working by selecting internal graphics first in the bios! Thanks for the help!
Is there a way to get my BT211 (asus) working? I had to go into Windows to get it to light up. Then I booted to Yosemite and while it lit up and connected the KB and TP they wouldn't work. Also, for...

What will be different with regards to the kexts, DSDT, etc?
Boot is fine, so at Post Install and about to start getting my Asus BT usb adapter to work, GT640 works, but I can't get HDMI on the integrated graphics to work at same time.

Thanks Rehabman. All working now. Updating Bios did the trick with regards to the DSDT patching errors.
Looking at upgrading the WiFi card but I want to be certain of something. In the guide you say: "At least some BCM94352HMB WiFi cards can work"...

So I'm trusting windows installer to create a partition on my OS X drive without effing it up?
Goes against all my beliefs. Lol

I'm guessing crisis averted? I used BC Assistant to remove windows partition, and form a single partition. I have Disk Utility in debug mode, and can confirm EFI and Recovery partitions are still present.
Will I continue with bootcamp to make partition...

I did. Why. :banghead:
I made a time machine backup before proceeding with the git hub section. Would this restore my original partition?
