To answer my own question in case someone else stupidly does this, all I needed to do was unplug my main hard drive and use a HDD>USB adapter on my friends mac. Then it simply showed up as an external hard drive, and I could change the user right back to how they were before. All sorted.

Ok so I lost the long password I made for one of my secondary hard drives. I can not even format the disk as the option is greyed out in disk utility. Is there any way to do this on a mac ? I don't care about loosing data it was basically empty anyway.

Same here, I've plugged it in, re-booted, unplugged, plugged in after booting, and even though all other hardware is working 100% fine with no hassle the TL-WDN4800 has never once been recognized in Mt.Lion. Starting to get highly annoying.
