BM Decklink Mini Monitor 4k (internal PCIE card) here.
Works
Sometimes after a cold boot needs a restart (the BM software control panel doesnt show hw present in the case of not working)
Anyone have experience with disk NOT going to sleep when idle? Seems not working on my setup. Manually ejecting it turns it off, but otherwise its always spinning even when not in use (for hours).
Note: this is not about computer sleep. It's about turning mechanical disk off when idle while...
i wish there was some "magic" way, guess your looking for it too :)
as i use it only for previews for coworkers, i have fcpx (compressor) 720p Prores LT preset which outputs a file which i run through HB with constant quality profile. Many times it takes the same amount of time as going...
yes, but that all depends on handbrake settings ofc
but interesting in results is that going x265 with gpu would be probably 3-4 times faster than cpu, which is a lot of time saved
re tests
as x264/x265 encoder/decoder is only part of a chip i always asumed its never gonna tax your gpu fully. Filters and effects are different than en/decoders.
What is important is the time/fps.
cpu is gonna be used as gpus arent as flexible as cpus so cpu still has to do some...
if you do a lot of encoding, macos is not the right "tool", windows applications/options are superior
x265 is a problem on current cpus, I agree you really want to use gpus. Not sure how good quality it is on igpu. My test are mainly x264...
but i would imagine the concept would be the same...
I did couple tests too, iMac 19/iMac20/iMacPro1. (I didnt have the "new" igpu framebuffer, but as hw is the same, I dont think it will make much difference, maybe some compatibility somewhere? Will test with though).
i was only interested in fcpx (cpu+gpu test)/handbrake (pure CPU) performance...
from my findings it really depends on your workflow.
If all you do is export from fcpx to h264 using quicksync (and you dont mind the not so good quality), imac smbios is way to go. you can have igpu enabled in bios, but boot 5700xt
if you work in many formats, export prores etc, imacpro...
Will be interesting to see if mb solves it. There are mentions of users who have problem with 5700xt, even proper Mac users in egpus. I can only say for myself, I never had any problem with this board nor asus x299. The last thing comes to mind would be some different vga BIOS or something. But...
- reset NVRAM
- confirm you have whatevergreen kext loaded*
- try booting with every port, not just changing while its running
- does your install still work with 580x now?
- confirm card works in BIOS/Windows for extended time (5-10mins)
- confirm you are using Casey config for AMD cards with...
sorry, didnt know you had vision G, just read designare in your profile and assumed you are in vision D thread you have vision D
but on vision D, im using stock OC folder from Casey with imacpro/imac20,2 smbios (both work)
first check your fcpx preferences, you should have 5700xt selected as gpu
if you dont need faster h264 and prefer quality h264, ignore quicksync. quicksyncs speed is great for temp quality exports. for best quality, export prores out of fcpx and use handbrake.
for most simple, yet powerfull...
Im on Vision D and very interested in findings as its FCPX machine
i can boot with igfx as primary with no display connected to mb
with igpu-config - fcpx doesnt start - will tinker more though as the macos system install is not new, just using new machine efi folder...
amd-config with imac...
