Hi There,

I've upgrade my hackingtosh build from Mojave to Catalina, among other things that broke is my audio.
I fixed all other things but can't get audio to work. I've got the Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3P motherboard which uses the ALC887 chip.
Audio was working perfectly fine in Mojave using realtekALC.kext and layout id '1'.

I've removed the realtekALC.kext file in de Clover kext directory en replaced it with the latest CloverALC, on the GitHub page it states it needs lilu to work so I've also placed the latest lilu.kext in the same directory. This didn't work after a reboot. I've tried multiple layout id's without succes. I've updated my Clover to the latest build and installed AppleALC on the disk to be sure it gets loaded.

Can anyone help me to get ALC887 working?

Never mind, got it to work by reading the guide below:

Never used AppleALC before so I implemented it incorrectly. Guess I'm an idiot :) .

Hi i can't have my ALC887 working on my Gigabyte GA-Z270-HD3P. Can you explain what you've done please?
I can't figure out what i'm doing wrong
Cheers

Hi there.

You have a different motherboard and the original poster has not been back since Nov 19.

Are you using Clover or OpenCore bootloader?

Have you installed the latest versions of lilu.kext and applealc.kext in your EFI/CLOVER/kexts/Other folder?

If so which "Audio ID" are you using? If you check the FAQ for applealc.kext over at the developer's website you will see they list the possible values for the 887 chipset.

If you are using Clover, use Clover Configurator to change the Audio ID, save, reboot, check for audio then try again until you find the correct one.

For "Internal" sound out of the Green jack the value is usually 1, 2 or 3 in my experience.

:)

I could not configure my audio driver ALC887 on Catalina, after updating from High Sierra. My mobo is Asus B150M-C. I used AppleALC, WhateverGreen and Lilu. Tried to inject audio on all possible numbers and nothing happens. Can you help?

Same problem here. I have a Gigabyte z77-ds3h. Everything is working except audio. Tried all possible layouts. I'm using OpenCore btw (but I tried booting with Clover and had the same problem).
@arqui, @cookiebisquit, @BoAlexandre15 ; Did anyone of you figure this out?

well i just managed to use applealc.kext in the other folder in EFI. I ditched the appleHDA.kext.
And of course the last version of Lilu and Whatevergreen.
I works. A little noisy but works
