Thank you so much for the replies Stork and Pastrychef.
Im on it!

My system has been running without any problems. I finally got round to doing some of your Tweaks for perfection. I did the Rename Devices and Enable IGPU for QuickSync. Checked the changes, saved and rebooted. I had a different Clover theme on the boot window, and when it rebooted, after the Apple logo and progress bar, I got a black screen with a white circle and a diagonal slash through the circle. I get the same result if I try to boot from my cloned backup, but strangely that showed a different Clover boot window theme.

I'm guessing the problem is in Clover's config.plist. If so, I think I'll have to boot from the install USB and use terminal to copy in a backup of config.plist. Is that what I need to do?

Yes, there's most likely something wrong with your config.plist. Replacing it with a backup should fix it.

@pastrychef :
Did you kept all the fixes in DSDT from clover's default config file ?
Mine is still full of :

No, I never had any of those.

Yes, definitely a config.plist problem. I didn't fully understand how working with/editing plists worked, and made a silly mistake. All fixed now and everything is still working.

I have had a small rarely-used LaCie 40GB external drive for a long time, and I've now installed a basic build according to Stork's and your guides on it that I can use as a tool for investigating and fixing any serious problems with my desktop build.

Hi !

Just for your info, since I'm currently researching this for my card,
the Maximus IX Hero is supported by the ThunderboleEX 3 card.
It is not shown in the card's product specs, but the IX mobo's manual
explicitly lists the ThunderboleEX 3 card as the required add-on.

It should be compatible. I think ASUS hasn't updated their list since 270 chipset, that's why you can't see your mobo. As you can see HERE. Someone already was planning on using it.

In case anyone is interested in the Phanteks Evolv MATX tempered glass case, here are some photos and a screenshot of About This Mac — I'm using the iMac18,3 system definition.

The shot of the case's left side just shows that the glass is all black except for the window over the mounts for 2 SSD — I don't have any yet. Apart from my Samsung SM951 M.2 SSD, I only have HDDs so far. The desk shot (a Mobel Posture sit/stand unit) shows the AOC 31.5in display with Logitech webcam and speakers.

The build, for equivalent parts, cost me $A1000 less than the 2017 iMac 27in.

Hi, lemnitz3.

I've been very happy with the AOC. I am able to use native 4K resolution and not have to scale anymore.

The only area that I wish were better is the on screen menus. It takes too many button presses to do something as simple as switch inputs. Trying to use picture-by-picture or picture-in-picture requires way too many button presses...

Overall, the image quality is very good and a great bargain. I think you will be pleased with it.
Hello pastrychef,
I have seen that your monitor can rotate 90º
Have you manage to get working the autorotation of the OS Interface?
Best regards

Hi. Sorry, I switched the monitor stand and lost the ability to rotate.
