Bump!! HELP!...

I'm SO, SO, close! I hope that anyone can help out.

I have a Samsung P480 running very well with most info and kexts from this thread, but I'm still a little stuck with the brightness and the sleep/hibernate features. Seems to mimic the R480 very well.

1. Can you outline the steps (or where you got the info) you took to get the brightness working via a DSDT update. Ideally I don't want to install/use Shades, as I remember reading that it's not good on battery life(?) compared to setting up the FN up/down controls.

2. What's the best solution for hibernate/sleep? I'm not too fussed about saving that state of the machine as I'll be able to boot up and power down sessions just fine. (bar accidental battery drains) What I simply need, is the ability to "close the lid" while I transfer commuter trains, without causing a whole load of reboot issues. The best I've found so far is to disable it all as per below. Is there a better solution? And/or will is there any other issues I'm missing if I simply disable it?

Code:
sudo pmset -a hibernatemode 0
sudo rm -rf /var/vm/sleepimage
sudo pmset -a lidwake 0

Thanks in advance for any help!

If the device is not on the PCI bus... indicates a hardware/BIOS problem, not software.

it works in Win7 properly and worked in 10.6.8.
what to do?

Then I don't know what you mean by "No PCI shows Atheros.."

Perhaps you should clarify your issue.

OK. Opening About this Mac - hardware- PCI
Shows only Nvidia.

No Atheros, no wifi. I tried all AR9285 kexts here with combination of IONetworking, injects etc without success.
(Yukon LAN also doent work.)

Could anyone with installed 10.10 attach zip of working installed kexts?

You should not expect anything to show there...

Use DPCIManager to see if the device is on the PCI bus and what its IDs are.

For AR9285, see here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/network/104850-guide-airport-pcie-half-mini-v2.html.

Or search for ProBookARPT.kext. It will work with SL for AR9285.

You need only toledaARPT.kext (does not work with SL, use ProBookARPT.kext instead) and vanilla IONetworkingFamily.kext and IO80211Family.kext. Do a fresh install if you are not certain that these kexts are untouched.

Just as an exercise I thought I would try to update my r580 samsung.. from el cap where I had all things working (cept Lan) reasonbly well. to sierra.. after some hassles. i have a fairly stable version sierra now running on r580 . again only thing not working is ethernet.. (to be expected). even managed to get gt330m working. If anyone is remotely interesting. send a msg.

I've been a few months despairing because I can not install Sierra on my samsung r580, with i5 and GT 330M.

I do not know what to do, I get reboots in the installer, panics, etc.

Follow the Clover guide linked from the FAQ.
http://www.tonymacx86.com/el-capita...faq-read-first-laptop-frequent-questions.html

Although you should read the FAQ for an overview of issues, the Clover guide is linked from the first question: "Q. Where do I start?", just after the bold face "Clover Guide".
Here is a direct link, just to be clear:
https://www.tonymacx86.com/threads/guide-booting-the-os-x-installer-on-laptops-with-clover.148093/

Also, your profile must be filled out with complete details as requested in the FAQ, again under "Q. Where do I start?". All seven details requested are equally important.

And if you have an issue (after following the guide), or on any other problem, you must provide a detailed description of the problem including information that helps us understand what you're doing. Always attach "Problem Reporting" files as per FAQ.
http://www.tonymacx86.com/el-capita...faq-read-first-laptop-frequent-questions.html
The required files and data are fully detailed in the last question in the FAQ:
"Q. What are typical "Problem Reporting" files?"
