If I were to reinstall Sierra on to an internal SATA drive using my current EFI minus the port limit increase patch, and the problems on reboot continued, could we assume that the port limit patch is not the problem of the "funky" reboot problems?
-or-
Would not using the port limit increase patch on a board that "requires" it leave it open to the same strange side effects?

Thanks again.

I don't think you can make any assumptions when USB is configured incorrectly.
You should continue to work through all typical post-install tasks until your system is configured entirely correct.

The port limit patch is never required.
You can always make the appropriate adjustments to stay within the 15-port limit.

Working on it.

Ok I understand more of why and how to make the appropriate adjustments to stay within the 15-port limit. I need to get something to test the USB - C connector and also connect the 2nd internal USB 3.0 header.

Interesting the USB 3.1 Gen 2 connector is working. And it is Asmedia 2142.
