The only reason for the upgrade is that a lot of my software that I depend on, including my VPN and Drobo has moved on from supporting El Capitan... Yes, I could run the old software forever, but in the case of the VPN software, would feel much better if it were kept up-to-date. The Drobo will...
First, I sincerely appreciate the help. Like I've tried to say, I set this current system up about 5 years ago (still running El Capitan) but once it was running, I didn't want to mess with it because every time I did, it was a hassle to stabilize again.
That being said, no. I haven't read...
Hi guys,
I'm about to strip the computer down and install the new parts for the wipe and install from El Capitan to Mojave.
Reading the current installation guide, it really doesn't mention using clover which -- I thought -- is how the machine got the serial number and all that registered so...
I asked this in another thread and basically got replied to saying "this is a guide thread, not a help thread" so I'm trying to ask it here.
I am having trouble downloading Mohave because "cannot be installed on this computer". Pilgrim suggested I "need to change my SMBIOS" and I remembered...
thanks very much for the feedback. I think the 580 will do me fine until I really can do the I-9 upgrade route. As for time machine, I use it for my system drive which isn’t otherwise backed up. The drobo, all 40tb of it, is data and video files...

Hi guys,
Based on input from here and elsewhere I've decided that rather than spend the ~$2000 to build a whole new machine to upgrade, it sounds like I can just replace a few parts like a new SSD (to save the current as a fallback) and a new video card to upgrade my currently "fine" 4790k i-7...
Hmm. So you think I can just buy a 580 or Vega card and maybe another SSD (to keep the current one as a fallback) then just
1) Make a backup
2) Install Video card and new SSD
3) Install using the Unibeast / Multibeast method described in the Install instructions
???
That would be great and...
Hi,
I'm currently writing to you from the very Hackintosh that I built 3 or 4 years ago (i7/4790k level) which is running "fine" but is pretty much stuck in time running El Capitan. Meanwhile, software that I work with -- like the Drobo Desktop -- is quickly starting to move on and abandon El...
Thanks! I'll definitely give that a shot. At this point, it'd be worth the price of the cable just to satisfy my curiosity.. (which is kinda how I got into this whole project in the first place)
:)
{edit: Think it'll have any problems (performance perhaps) with displaying 2x 1440p monitors...
Hi,
I've got a newly finished CustomMac Pro (pretty much matching the build guide). Right now, I've got two ASUS MX27AQ monitors (1440p) attached via DisplayPort cables to my Gigabyte NVIDIA 970 card, and I finally got them running at 2560x1440 resolution.
It's GLORIOUS...
My question is...
