What's the oldest computer you use on a regular basis?

a G4 450 DP for iTunes and videos. Not used much, and will be evenutally be replaced with a customac running 10.6.8. I probably won't throw it out, unless it gets gutted as a case (I'd cut extra holes to let air in in the lower back, use a low powered i3-2120T to keep heat down, and use a...

    Firewire 400 problem and Gigabyte Z68 XP-UD3

using DSDT, latest BIOS, same graphics and motherboard as you, 10.6.8, FW400 works fine with unpowered 2.5" drives and powered 3.5" drives. I will say this, however. I picked this board because it had FW, and I've used FW for backups for years. However: SATA is about 4 times faster. You...

Easiest card for 3 monitors on 10.6.8?

Interesting. I'm using Z68 motherboards with i5 processors. Did you stay with 10.6.7 to keep compatibility with that 9800 graphics card? I wonder if 10.6.7 will work well with Sandy Bridge boards and processors?

Easiest card for 3 monitors on 10.6.8?

I've been using GeForce 210 (silent) cards from ASUS. Low power, low cost, basic graphics. I don't need spectacular graphics, but I'd like to have three monitors. With 10.6.8 in mind, what are the best choices, keeping in mind easy install, low cost, etc? I'll likely never go past 10.6.8, as...

Mac OS X 10.9 appears in Google Analytics logs - What Will it be Called?

Mac OS X 10.9 appears in Google Analytics logs Wow! Siri and Apple maps on my desktop!!!! Maybe call it "Nine Lives". And it should come in a special "Litterbox" addition. I'm sticking with 10.6.8, and will move to Linux after that's done.

    Where's Apple Inc. going?

It's interesting. Hackintoshes are not perceived as "Cool" by the public at large, or even the tech set. Those (us) that think they are cool are a very, very small minority. On the other hand, the MBP is a (fashion) necessity for so many people. And in certain circles, the MP Is a must...

I just disposed of my first mac

I was pretty attached to my first G4 too...A sawtooth. When it became useful for an iTunes server and DVD player only, I gave it away. But I had (Have) a stack of Digital Audio G4s here, and, after destroying two (Waffling over whether or not I would do another case mod), I used the mini ITX...

Hackintosh using 1st gen AppleTV chassis

Apple broke compatibility with Atom processors with 10.6.7 or 8. Probably no Lion or ML on this without some serious coding, or perhaps as a Virtual machine. It all depends on what you want to use it for. It might make a good little HTPC box running SL.

    GA-Z68AP D3 + 9800GT reboot loop after DSDT installed

I had a hell of a time even installing on that motherboard. I'm now running 10.6.8 on it, but I had to install the system onto a Z68XP motherboard and then move the hard drive. Had the boot loop issue, though I was able to load Linux without any problems onto another HD with that board, so...

    Snow Leo on Z77 boards?

Snow Leopard with Z77 motherboard Can one install 10.6 on a Z77 motherboard (provided the CPU, graphics, etc will work with 10.6)? Haven't seen posts of anyone doing this, but perhaps someone out there knows. Not interested in 10.7 or ML. Need the 10.6.x

    Snow Leo on Z77 boards?

I read that you cannot run SL on 3rd gen (Ivy Bridge) Processors. Got it! I understand that we're waiting on ML for general release support of HD4000, and that's holding up the Customac 2012 list. But can you run something like an i5 2500k with a Z77 or H77 motherboard with Snow Leopard...

What happened to the Hardware page and the deals page?

Looked as I do every day for news about the latest and greatest new gear and deals on new gear and those two threads were gone! What gives? :banghead:

    Case BitFenix Prodigy Mini ITX

Take it easy on Eels. He's very passionate about creating mods. He's spent a lot of time doing this, screwed up his share of parts and he's here to help others avoid his early mistakes. It's painful to watch someone else crash in slow motion when it could have been avoided. On a personal note...

    Your First Computer

The Cutting Edge Quatro 850. I thought I was buying a Mac clone, turns out it was a Centris 650 motherboard in an IBM case with more RAM and a bigger HD than Apple put in Quadras. With upgrades, I got about 6 good years out of that thing. Hack Life.
