I'm a bit out of date - Thinking about upgrading - is there a best place to start?

Thanks for all the help/pointers. It'll be a couple of days before I can dive in again. I'll report back with progress (or more questions) :) Carlos

I'm a bit out of date - Thinking about upgrading - is there a best place to start?

One quick follow up - Should I expect to need fewer Kexts that I used to have? My current config includes: AppleALC.kext AtherosE2200Ethernet.kext FakeSMC_ACPISensors.kext FakeSMC_CPUSensors.kext FakeSMC_GPUSensors.kext FakeSMC_LPCSensors.kext FakeSMC_SMMSensors.kext FakeSMC.kext...

I'm a bit out of date - Thinking about upgrading - is there a best place to start?

Thanks for the pointers - I have a second NVME drive that I plan to install on in case I need a quick revert to existing. I'll start looking into building that Ventura USB w/OpenCore.

I'm a bit out of date - Thinking about upgrading - is there a best place to start?

I'm a bit out of date - Thinking about upgrading - is there a best place to start? I have a Gigabyte Z370 AORUS Gaming 7, running Mojave at the moment. Been working great, but thinking I should upgrade and get more current. I suppose the good news is that it's been working well enough that...

Audacity no audio - Realtek ALC892

I know this is an old thread, but did this ever get resolved? I'm just now running into a similar problem. Audio seems to work everywhere except for Audacity.

    Build me a Mac PRO

    >> No drivers. I tried to do a very 'clean' install. Have had to check kexts and stuff, but only within EFI. My only sniglet right now is the sound... it works fine, but my line-out is labeled 'headphones'. I've not had a chance to chase that down yet.

I was right under $1800 and so far I'm very happy with all this.

    [Success] GIGABYTE Z370 Gaming 7 + Intel Core i7-8700K + RX 580 + (2x) Dell P2715Q 4k @ 60Hz

If you're worried about heat with this case, there's a few videos out on YouTube on how to improve things a bit. Some have created custom panels and drilled out the front panel. I didn't want to go that crazy, so here's what I did: 1 - Use some washers/longer screws to offset the front panel...

    New 8700K Build - Parts Check/Opinions Request

I've only just gotten the thing to boot up, but I went with the middle M2 port and used the heatsink that was originally installed in the top slot. So far I've only just gotten OSX installed, I have to figure out MultiBeast and Clover tomorrow...

    New 8700K Build - Parts Check/Opinions Request

Killer is the 2nd ethernet port. That much I know... I don't know if/how it is better than the other Intel port. I just booted this baby up for the first time, just enough to see that I have to update BIOS to get current. But, duty calls, so probably tomorrow for the rest.

    New 8700K Build - Parts Check/Opinions Request

Thanks... is the Killer significantly different? Also, which of the M2 ports are we using for the NMVe drives? The documentation on these is a little bit confusing to me. It took me a couple of days of going down review rabbit holes, but I finally picked and got everything ordered and if...

    New 8700K Build - Parts Check/Opinions Request

Oh, that's a good suggestion. I'm not sure why but I'd somehow gotten to thinking the difference was not that great and I like the idea of having a small-ish boot drive so that I can easily back it up and swap it for another when doing a big upgrade. A difference that big is enough to make me...

    New 8700K Build - Parts Check/Opinions Request

Hi, I'm looking to build a new Hack... I'm starting to settle on a parts list and figured I'd ask for opinions. I'm not quite at 'cost is no object' but I'm wanting to go for a fairly high-performance system. Here's what I've got so far: CPU: Intel - Core i7-8700K 3.7GHz 6-Core Processor...
