I ended up selling the desktop to buy a macbook pro, so this is as far as I got. I am sorry that I can't help you anymore.

The reason that the asus bios is not recognizing the boot loader is because the bootloaders for mac are EFI based.

I pulled the ssd (aftermarket) out of my x401a and installed using my hackintsoh pro, and using the chameleon boot loader I was able to boot on my laptop, but only with safemode (-x). I currently and finishing up highschool, so I don't have a whole lot of time to work on it.

Okay, so I have had my 550ti for quite a while, and fix after fix, update after update, I am finally going to get a new card to workvwith my 10.8.3 system. I am looking for something that is comparable, if not better, but I have a budget of $130 or so. I currently have the gt 650 and the hd 7770...

Sorry about this, I forgot to reply back. I used the 640 for a while, plug and play in 10.8.0 with no issues whatsoever. I ended up returning it though as my 550ti finally got a fix.

Okay, what I did was I just used the patched bios from samisnake, which can be found here: http://biosrepo.wordpress.com/asrock/z77/ next, copy the Bios file to a usb drive that is formatted to fat32, reboot into the Bios and flash it. you do not need any os in order to do this...

Well, after the update to 10.8.3 the Graphics Card seems to be locking up and freezing up the entire system, only issue I am having. I am considering upgrading my card to a 650ti, just to get something that isn't so finicky... It is a real bummer, especially since I didn't pay a penny for...

Is your graphics card installed while you are trying to start the install? this might be an issue, not sure as I have never owned an amd card. I downloaded the 1.80 bios from the ASRock website, updated, thenusing the same mkethod I flashed the patched bios found here...
