Hi there,

I would like to pick your brains please; I am just a user, not at all capable of building my own computer.

I haven't yet been able to find a list of hardware components of the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13; it is expected to sell in Q4.
closest to specs: http://www.gamesht.com/2012/08/05/its-a-tablet-its-a-laptop-no-its-the-lenovo-ideapad-yoga
configurations of Intel Ivybridge upto i7 are expected.

Though, does a list of laptop hardware components that are compatible with ML exist?

Many thanks for your thoughts and time,

Michael.

There's probably good chance it will install. It's really just another laptop so there's no reason it shouldn't. Its really hard to tell if laptop/tablet crossovers will work before we have a chance to test them out on release. There's probably a good chance this will run OSX over a Surface though. As for the touch screen, its a good chance it won't work but i may be wrong.

The Yoga 13 certainly is one of the most desirable hackbooks to date.
Since most components are USB-based (even the wifi), I hope that getting it to work 100% is feasible.

Current status: Confirming 10.8.2 working so far except for wireless and the touchscreen.

- QE/CI OK (requires HD4000PlatformId=4)
- Sleep/Resume OK
- Sound/Mic OK (VoodooHDA)
- Keyboard OK (VoodooPS2Keyboard)
- Touchpad: OK (using a customized version of VoodooPS2Touchpad). The stock version either missed clicks (VoodooPS2Touchpad) or didn't support two-finger scrolling (VoodooPS2Mouse)
- Webcam: OK, a little too dark (USB, manufacturer: Sunplus IT, Vendor ID 0x04F2, Product ID 0xB322)

- Touchscreen: responds but right now positions the pointer to the top-left. This means it is just not configured/calibrated (just works without configuration in Ubuntu 12.10). The touchscreen's manufacturer is ELAN Microelectronics, vendor ID 0x04F3, product ID 0x000a. It is connected via USB 2.0.

- Wireless LAN: Realtek RTL8723A (connected via USB, vendor ID 0x0BDA, product ID 0x1724), should work with some modifications to the Realtek USB driver.
- Bluetooth: probably not with the stock drivers; is on the same RTL8723A as WiFi.

Linux drivers (with source) for the RTL8723A seem to be in beta (not available from Realtek's website, but from dropbox). See http://askubuntu.com/questions/139632/wireless-card-realtek-rtl8723ae-bt-is-not-recognized for details.

Any ideas on how to get the touchscreen working? I would prefer this laptop over any other on the market IF the touchscreen works.

I hope it's just a matter of sending some calibration commands to either the USB touchscreen directly or to the corresponding kext.

OS X already detects the USB device as a Touchscreen, shows the "Ink" preference pane, and apparently reacts on touch input. It is just not positioning the pointer where it should.

Additionally, the touchscreen works out of the box under Linux (Ubuntu 12.10), so maybe we find the calibration commands there...

Seems that the Touchpad is actually working....
BUT: For some reason it is registered TWICE as an USB HID, once as a digitizer (absolute, multi-touch, Usage 000D:0004) and once as a mouse (relative, Usage 0001:0002).

Using HID Explorer.app you can actually see all the different values (plus, if you put all 10 fingers on the screen, the relative HID interprets this as button clicks, so it's definitely interfering)

Now I think it is just a matter of deactivating/disabling/removing the relative HID.

Right now, I couldn't find a particular API call to do this. What might help is to actually prevent the wrong HID descriptor to show up in the first place.
I have played a little with iousbhiddriver-descriptor-override (https://github.com/thefloweringash/iousbhiddriver-descriptor-override) but yet without success.

Curious if that card works. The two mini pci-e slots are supposed to be mSATA-only. The Wifi card actually is on a much smaller connector.

For the time being, I use an EDIMAX EW-7811UN mini USB adaptor.

I saw that on a lenovo forum as well, about Msata, however I have never heard of that ever, and don't believe, also googled another laptop with the same card and it is mpcie. Let me know if you can get a copy of our bios so we can mod it for whitelist (it will most likely be needed)

Also not sure how much you do with dsdt but we would try and get that as nice as clean as possible, What is your start time on the ssd?

Another one interested here. Apparently the problems with MacOSX are exactly the same than with Ubuntu. I got the second mSATA drive last friday and I wanted to try Ubuntu during the weekend but I forgot the charger in the office. If I can help with anything, just let me know. I will try to install ML as soon as possible, but wireless is gonna be bottle neck for sure.
