I have googled the green screen problem to no avail. It seems to be a combination of graphics and display and may be one of Apples lovely little DRM games. But I thought it might be worth asking here....

Symptoms are that any purchased iTunes videos (legitimately with my Apple ID) will not display on my HD TV either through HDMI or Display Port. The sound comes through, the progress bar moves, but the screen stays green.

So anyone else recognise this issue? and anyone found a workaround - without having to add a discrete GPU or change your display?

All comments welcomed. Nothing on google seems to address this issue properly.

Hi minihack.

There doesn't seem to a remedy for this with 7 series boards. I spent hours trying to get iTunes to work correctly with bought content. I changed system definitions to no avail. Closest I got was with Mac Mini 6,2. But instead of green or dark screen it was multi coloured with sound and progress bar. It works on my P67 and my very old core duo build and they are both up to date with iTunes and system software as is my H77 that doesn't display content.

There are a few threads on this forum and people have downgraded iTunes to watch there movies and TV shows. I have linked them if you haven't seen them.
iTunes HD content not working on my ivy Hackintosh
Itunes video not working

I think there are many users with graphics cards showing the same problem. It is more motherboard related.

Thanks for the links WildWillow. Interesting that this issue has been around a while, but no proper solution anywhere.

I tried this afternoon changing my display edid to make it look like a built in iMac display. That cosmetically worked to look as if it was one, but still no joy on the iTunes content.

I have a biggish birthday coming up, so maybe an AppleTV will be the answer and then airplay my stuff through that.....unless that too is blocked?

No problem. I'm not sure if the AppleTV will make a difference as it seems to be these Boards. I read many Apple discussions about HDCP compliant TV's, Cables etc in which all that I am using is compliant. I linked my MBP via thunderbolt with mini display port to HDMI adapter to my Samsung TV(H77 media build on this TV) and I have no problem with it displaying all my content.

Wow that must be a biggish birthday. Hope you get a biggish present(ATV). Many happy returns for the upcoming birthday.

As a matter of fact iTunes videos doesn't show up properly on both my ASRock Z77E ITX (MacMini 6,2 SysDef) and Zotac Z77 ITX (MacMini 6,2 as well). Also both with chimera bootloader and HD4000

Thanks for the results, It definitely is the 7 series chipset. No current fix either. Lets hope this will not be case for the 8 series, time will tell i guess.

Okay - sounds pretty definite! Interesting though that a 7 series chipset in an MBA of course has no problem. Also it has no problem taking my iTunes library from my z77 board and playing a movie via home sharing - which is why I am hoping streaming from the hack using an ATV will work.

One last question (haven't seen this reported either way) is: does iTunes under Windows with 7 series boards have the same issue?

Edit: my MBA is actually HD 3000 - so ignore comments on that score!

No apparently it works fine under windows. Which to me is odd.

The Apple forum discussions also mentioned trouble with real Macs. Literally a guy took one into the Apple store and they were unable to help him. I posted a while back in one of those links that to get it to work you could open iTunes in Finder/get info and change it from 64bit to 32bit which worked until iTunes was updated. That solution came from someone with a real Mac.

I tried yesterday, but that doesn't work anymore.
I wonder if 6 series mobos with ivy bridge processor (or viceversa) have this issue as well.
