Is it possible to get 5.1 audio via optical cable on Yosemite?

Hello everybody,

The title says it all, is it possible to get 5.1 audio via optical cable on Yosemite?

I'm able to get stereo sound via optical cable, but not 5.1. Tried lot's of things.

If it helps, my motherboard and video card are Asus VI Impact with GTX 780.

This is the only issue I'm facing in my installation, everything else is working like a charm.

I'd really appreciate any help!

Thanks for your answer Toleda.


I couldn't get it to work.
I used the pikeralphaALC AppleHDA8Series method and only could get 2.0 Audio.

I Attached a image of my Sound System Preferences.

It's more than a week now, I don't know what else to do

If I could get the 5.1 through HDMI, it'd be ok. But Couldn't get it to work as well..

System sounds are mono x 2, invalid experiment. If you can't get 5.1 optical to work, the problem is not OS X.
