MacTester57, Nice G5 Mod! Where did you get your motherboard tray?

I am starting one and noticed your motherboard tray is different, where did you get your motherboard tray? I looked at mountain mods but they are expensive, was wandering if you found a cheaper place since I don't recognize the one you used?

Thanks,
MacModifier

I will post pics when I am done need the tray though :)
You can also use a Lian Li or LaserHive set up as well, Mountain Mods bumped up their prices which is kinda annoying lol
You can also hog out another ATX cast and use those bits as well, I have three other ATX cases broken down into nothing that I will use for other Apple mods.

Thank you!
There is no MOBO tray. The MOBO is fixed with self made standoffs (see drawing). The back panel is from an old scrap "digitalis" HTPC case. But I think, it's almost impossible to find such a case. See here: http://fillippa.dyndns.org:8080/drupal/node/111

I have installed ML 10.8 now on the G5's "big brother" (Intel DP35DP, Q8400, GF8600) now. It seems to run fine (exept of the usual sleep issues with this board). I think, I will install it on the G5 soon...

I've used the VoodooHDA kext in Multibeast. Or you could use a USB sound device.

I didn't want the Thunderbolt version because this is a very young interface that makes a lot of problems, if you don't have a "real" Mac. Even if I should own a Macbook later, I could use the Cinema Display with it.

Another reason you might consider the Thunderbolt display is the extra ports. But if you don't need or want them their both darn fine displays.

Ports

Three powered USB 2.0 ports
FireWire 800 port
Gigabit Ethernet port
Thunderbolt port
Kensington security slot

When I look at your Hackintosh G5 Mod, I am impressed! It is one of the best I have seen, You an Aquamac. I saw one of his mods and it was like yours, really, really Clean. Nice work :)

Thanks for praise! This project was not bad, but I think my Cube Hack is better. ;)

Clover guide for the GA Z68MX-UD2H-B3

introduction:
After I've replaced this Hack with my G4 Cube Hack (see signature) last year, it was more or less jobless. This week I've decided to do some Clover tests with a completely new 10.9.5 installation to be ready for Yosemite.

Now it’s up and running again with a fresh Clover based 10.9.5 installation.
- Working HD3000 without glitches and QE/CI
- Working sleep without loss off all USB devices after rewake (see Part 1, UEFI Settings)
- Working internal ALC 889 Sound
- Working USB 3.0
- Working App Store
- SSD Trim Support
- HWMonitor without additional kexts in S/L/E

Part 1, UEFI Settings:

The used BIOS in this guide is the newest UEFI version U1e

M.I.T:
20141009-8606.jpg

M.I.T advanced frequency settings:
The important setting here is „Internal CPU PLL Overvoltage“. It must be disabled, otherwise you will lose all USB devices after every wake from sleep and you have to dis- and reconnect them to re-enable them.
20141009-8607.jpg

BIOS features:
- Boot Option #1 must be set to your system drive
20141009-8608.jpg
20141009-8609.jpg

Peripherals:
- SATA Mode Selection AHCI
- Internal Graphics MemorySize must be set to 128M
- XHCI & EHCI Hand-off must be Enabled

Power Management:

Part 2, Clover based Mavericks Installation:

This part was done in accordance with this excellent guide (Version BIOS-Only Systems):

To be continued

Part 3, Clover optimisation:

What you need in your (hidden, only mounted for maintenance) EFI partition:
- Everything, that was installed there in Part 2
- an SSDT
- a DSDT
- config.plist (see below)
- FakeSMC.kext (with XXXSensor.kexts in „Contents“, if you want to use HWMonitor). I’ve taken it from a Multibeast based system
- GenericUSBXHCI.kext
- realtekALC.kext
- RealtekRTL81xx.kext

I’ve used the newest Clover Configurator. The settings (in config.plist) were made in accordance with the following pictures.

Acpi:
Clover_ACPI.jpg

Boot:
The important settings are:
- Remove „Verbose“ and „Log“ after everything is OK. The boot time will then be much faster!
- „slide=0“ removes the HD3000 glitches! (believe it or not, but it’s true!)
- „dart=0“ must be activated for VT-d capable CPU’s
- „kext-dev-mode=1“ is not necessary but will be important for Yosemite (otherwise it will not load unsigned kexts)
- „Default Boot Volume“ is the name of your OS X partition
- Edit: "XMPDetection" should be set to "1" (same profile as in the BIOS). The DDR3 RAM modules are then detected with the correct 1600MHz speed (your modules may be different)
Clover_Boot.jpg

Devices:
The important settings are:
- „IntelGFX“ 0x01268068 (see here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/graphics/...lags-igpenabler-igplatformid-igpdeviceid.html)
- „Properties“ This HEX code was generated with EFIStudio and tells OS X, that the network adapter is „built in“. Otherwise the App store will not work!
Clover_Devices.jpg

EFIStudio_Ethernet.jpg

Graphics:
The important settings are:
- „ig-platform-id“ 00030010 (details see same link as above)
- Inject Intel
Clover_Graphics.jpg

Patches:
The important settings are:
- „AppleRTC“ activated (otherwise your BIOS settings could be overwritten)
- CPU and PM settings in accordance with your CPU (see here: http://clover-wiki.zetam.org/Configuration/KernelAndKextPatches)
- „KextsToPatch“ in accordance with the picture (Trim Enabler, AppleHDA etc, see also Part 4)
Clover_Patches.jpg

SMBIOS:
You should set Macmini5,1, if you have the same Hardware as me. If your Hack is in a vintage Apple Housing, you can use its Serial Number. The type of this old Mac will then be displayed in „About This Mac“
Clover_SMBIOS.jpg

Part 4, AppleHDA patch for ALC889:
The AppleHDA.kext was patched with toledas excellent „audio_cloverALC-90_v2.command“, which is part of this package: https://github.com/toleda/audio_CloverALC

Conclusion:
S/L/E is almost fully „vanilla“ with this installation method. All required additional files such as FakeSMC.kext are hidden in your EFI partition and injected during system boot. The only patched file in the system partition is AppleHDA. I think it’s the way to go for every new Hackintosh!

Happy Hacking

Humm... everytime I look at Clover I get the the feeling that something simple has been made very complex. I do not intend to get involved with it and will do old school Chameleon if necessary on Yosemite.

Just my two cents.
