Theres an issue with the nvidia MCP79 sata controller on your board that apple/nvidia never bothered to fix. Basicly a sata 3 drive works at sata 1 speeds. I had this problem on my OCZ agility 3, the only way to resolve it was to use OCZs tool to set the drive to work at sata 2 speeds.

I was actually thinking about this and I remember reading a couple of years ago(when I set up my SSD) that this issue only affected a few SSDs so try updating the firmware and if not get in touch with samsung and limit the drive to sata 2

Im actually really annoyed people are still having problems with the nvidia MCP79 controller and ive already emailed samsung technical about the problem, waiting to hear back for their solution.

I just installed a 250GB Samsung 840 EVO,
but my performance are very different from what I read here.
What's wrong?

Thank you...

Just heard back from samsung:

"Thank you for your email.

Unfortunately there is no tool to limit the SSD speed, usually it gets the speed allowed by the Sata port.

I’m afraid there is no way to change the situation, unless Apple can provide you with a different Sata controller, like Intel."

Looks like anyone with a 2009ish mac with a MCP79 will have to go for an OCZ ssd or other compatible drive, If youve already bought an SSD take it back to the store as not compatible.

2008 mbp mavericks (sata2) OCZ Vertex 4 256GB (200/257 speed in attachment)

My hackintosh mavericks (my sig/profile, its sata3 at least) - OCZ Vertex 3 Max-IOPS 120GB (constantly out of space - the one with 169/423)

I have another Vertex3 that is 240GB (non-MaxIOPS edition) running windows. So can't really test that.

Blackmagic isnt really for bench numbers, its just a stress test to see what kind of video formats your drive can play.
They benchmarked the raidr here.

I'd however be much happier with the plextor m6e, its a fast connection all the way through to the SSD or an 840 evo just works solidly

I would like to see bench numbers for this item:
Looks more promising as it recognized by the bios as native and is raid as well. Look at video, note SLI seems to be blocked by its use, no reports of crossfire.
