Atheros 10.9.4 LAN Ethernet - not working

Just upgraded my system to 10.9.4

i have been happily humming away for the last year on my hackintosh with no issues, thanks to the awesome setup help from users on this site.

however after the 10.9.4 update I can not get LAN Ethernet to work.

Everything else is is perfectly working though incl. audio, USB 3.0 etc

I tried each of the three atheros options in multibeast 6.3.1 and none work for me

should I try downloading an older version of the atheros Ethernet kext? Such as alxethernet 1.0.1?
I am not sure which kext version I was running before, but it WAS working for my mobo.

specs:
gigabye h77 ds3h. (Rev 1.1)
i5 3.39 ghz ivy bridge
8 gb corsair
radeon 6670 1024mb

any thoughts on how to get Ethernet working for this machine?

Something very ugly is going on with 10.9.4. On my machine with an Intel NIC, I was having port hangs. Rolling back the Intel driver to 2.4.14 seemed to help but its unclear if it actually fixes the issue. I am able to do large file transfers without crashing again though. I have another machine that I want to convert to run Mac OS X which is dual NIC (Intel + Killer) but I am holding off until the network issues are resolved with an actual fix.
